The "parent" is well aware that the brat is going to skate on EVERY available surface, yet allows them to wear them to crowded places, increasing
the likelyhood of an accident. When I point out the protective gear thing, the parents either act annoyed or surprised. I haven't seen any Heely injuries yet at the clinic, but it is just a matter of time. I would expect some sort of Achilles tendon strain and possibly some hip strain from the posture while Heelying, but if the darlings have to walk in them for an extended time, they are literally having to walk on their tiptoes to avoid rolling, and I think that would be equally hard on the muscles and cause strain.
Now that is interesting. I thought that the weels could be retracted for walking. That is also a good point that you wouldn't let you kid go rollerskating without protective gear or biking, and so on.
Maybe you could get the nurses to band together and issue a statement or plea to all the adults in the U.S. to make their kids were helmets and pads when wearing wheelies!! That way the kid would get so tired of it, they would just switch to regular footwear!

That is a good idea. But then who could Syndrome clothesline?

Well, there are ALWAYS that percentage who feel that rules do not apply to them!

I just had a bad thought come through my mind. What happens if heelies became an Extreme Summer sport? That would be bad, but funny to see the kids wipe out and break a few bones faster. They would never be able to skate again.
I do remember seeing the heelies pulled off shelves. There was a safety recall. Orthopedic doctors saw that once a foot is tilted at an angle of that height, the bone in the ankle can snap and cause major injuries. ;)

Interesting, what has changed to let them continue sales? I would think that it would cause a lot more ankle problems, as DW use to ice skate and roller blade, and she was telling me that the proper "fit" was to have them laced up so they could give proper ankle support when turning and so forth.

I was walking through my complex. I saw a group of kids go towards to main pool. One of the brats lost control and wiped out into the pool with his heelies. For a change, I snickered passed then. It was a fun sight because our pool has cameras that record the problems.
There are signs all over our complex saying inline skates and heelies are not allowed. If caught, that person will be fined.
Now, I wished the other day the son would have had a nice bumpy ride down the stair case.
It would be very bad to see cheer leaders doing that on Main Street. We would have to get the invisable wall up to see them fall backwards. :D:

Brazilian tourists? Cheerleaders? Line jumpers? Backwards-walking idiots? Stroller stormtroopers? I may have to change the hunting method, but the parks will always be teeming with quarry.

Heelies don't seem to be as big of a problem at WDW as you guys seem to make out. I haven't seen one heelie all day and I went to Animal Kingdom, Studios, and Epcot today. I wonder if I'll see any the next day I go.
