hobie, I used the flea spot med treatment your wife uses since it came out. Was a life saver for my beloved pets. Two yrs ago my vet put all on Comfortis tabs by mouth. WONDERFUL & lasts much longer & is much easier. Ask your vet & check Comfortis on O L. Either med simply adds comfort & a longer life to pets who give us love. :dog8:

MS, we checked with the vet about Comfortis. He recommended we don't use it as Scooter had both her liver and kidney impacted when she was poisoned. He also recommended doing an occasional liver function test as it's not clear if Comfortis will tax the liver over time.

I guess we're sticking with Frontline+.

hobie, I totally understand this & your vet is to be commended for his concerns. He sounds extremely learned & well read. My Sherriton Joy de Oro had the above issues in July, but vet feels comfortis is safe for him because his liver & kidneys are checked every other month. I have faith in my vet + we are good friends. My script to you now.... stay with the vet you have. Great ones are difficult to find. T U hobie for the postback. :)

You've obviously got your pooch well looked after.

We will stick with the vet we've got as he was the one that saved Scooter. He's got a small operation and it's in a dumpy building but he does good work. And, he plays AC/DC in his surgery.

We got a call this morning from the Little Husker who was in tears about a dog. Before saying why we need the back story.

She's off in a foreign land (Nebraska) in her first year of college. College kids, apparently, drink. Who knew. She was with some friends in a bar restaurant, one asked her to hold their beer (a likely story), and she got popped by the local constabulary for being a Minor In Possession. It's probably like shooting fish in a barrel and an easy source of revenue. Wombat probably has lots of stories about the Longhorns in downtown Austin.

Anyway, she pays a $250 fine (no, I didn't send her a dime) and gets 24 hours of community service. One of the options was cleaning up at the local animal shelter. They think it's a horrible job; she was mucking out hawg pens in high school. She went in today for her first three hours. At the end the shelter workers rewarded her good work with fifteen minutes with one of the animals. She picked an adult chocolate lab.

She took him for a walk. He knew all his commands and when she sat down he crawled up in her lap. She says he's a good boy and can't understand why he's in the pound. When she took him back he did not want to go back in the cage.

So, if any of you know someone in Nebraska who is looking for a good boy I've got a deal for them. Act fast as you never know how long the shelters will keep an unwanted good boy.

If he's that well behaved, he's probably there because his former owners moved and were unable to take him with them. Sadly, that's the number one reason pets end up in shelters. Is there a lab rescue in the area?
