Since we moved to Hawaii my wife has discovered orchids. She raises them and also takes in orphans that have lost their flowers. Apparently, they only flower once a year.
She came in from her garden just now really excited with one that's she's had for a while bu had never flowered. It's a Tom Thumb Vanda and is a little over an inch across. The one on the right is almost opened.

Ooooh, how lovely! When my older sister Susan was alive, she got into orchids and dragged mom into it. Currently, as far as I know, nobody is into orchids in my family anymore.

Wonderful whale photos, Hobie. Is that a little kayak near the whale? How exciting to hear them blow and see them smacking the water.

No kayaks were close by. It would have been dangerous as these guys were really having a good time.

They should tow and use an "off-island" impound lot.

That's actually not a bad idea. Once all the toxic stuff is removed they could be strategically placed to build up the reefs.
