We recently had the farrier use just 2 nails to put regular metal horse shoes on her, then he used an epoxy glue to further secure the shoes. She's doing very well with the current treatment - she walks out briskly across the pasture and even runs around with them on, which we are discouraging because we don't want those shoes coming off.

Back when I first moved down here I visited the Tri-Circle D Ranch at Fort Wilderness and I got to watch a horse being shoed. It looks like it should be painful for the horse with all the burning and nailing but it isn't since the hoof has no nerve endings. Our horses are use to having company & 2 of them do give family chilren rides around the stable area. They are for long trail rides only & aren't into playing much, but they do like guests with food. :) mech, gates to ranch are well protected & locked so others don't come in & play. Stable areas are slopping with boulders surrounding. Doubt you would want to navigate. darph has been invited to stay in tack room as it has beer cooler. He can navigate through anything for beer. ;) I don't spend all day in one place. Haven't for a long time. Going in before or after a shift is fun! As a CM guest all is seen differently.
