This is always a ridiculous criticism. It's kind of lame to complain about tax dollars being used to fly a president around. Your tax dollars are being wasted in much more serious ways than ensuring the protection of the leader of the free world. The answer is probably not a whole lot of tax dollars in comparison to the number of new tax dollars they are attempting to generate with this initiative.

The secret service determines what security measures need to be taken. The president does not say "I want this and that blocked off. I want X number of people inconvenienced." It just is what it is. I'm trying to think of a nice way to put this, but all of the complaining about what needs to be done for a presidential visit is pretty ignorant. "Well why did he have to ____?" Seriously? I honestly thought this would be a thread making fun of how dumb all of the over dramatic and ridiculous complaining was on the other board.

Oh, I know all this. If he had spoken longer it wouldn't be nearly so annoying. 15 minutes is in and out, he was there no time at all.

15 minutes is probably about twice the attention span of the average adult watching the news out there. Any longer and the substance of the speech gets lost in the white noise of blah blah blah. Brief is better when you are trying to make a point. If the writers couldn't get the point across in a 15 minute address, then they probably wouldn't be working for the White House.

The one thing missing, though, was the backdrop of a dozen large Brazilian tour groups, following their flag leaders and chanting as the President spoke. That would have bee ideal !

Hmm Zazu, I think we might need a Brazilian tour group smilie !

Problem is they were all myopic. :p:

Wouldn't it have been cheaper (and had the same effect) if he had used a Green screen? He could have appeared to be at Disney World (or anywhere else at all) and still had his message reach the same amount of people without any worry or inconvenience to others and with very little costs associated with doing it this way. We live in the 21th century afterall. ;)

It might be good to remember that Lincoln's Gettysburg address was less than 15 minutes and he had to ride a train all day to get from Washington to do it. Wasted an entire day and what did he say really? Four score (whatever that is) and seven years ago, blah, blah, blah. What a waste of taxpayer money that was. ;)

Did they have TAXES back then? Yeah, I know England did, but did we?

Something tells me that politicians have enough credibility issues without using green screens to make it look like they were "on location". The press would never let him live it down!

Here's one. The trick is, find the guy with the flag!
