The idiocy of those at board x never ceases to amaze me.

Maybe they should call the police. ;)

Why would one bother to go to board X if they already know what kind of reaction to expect from them? I stay away from forums like that because I can actually feel my I.Q. drop when I visit them. ;)

'Cuz I like the pretty pictures. :D: Which does not explain what I was doing on that particular thread, but it's what gets me there. I have also gotten useful information there, and I generally can predict what threads will go whacko and avoid them unless I'm in the mood for whacko, but every once in a while I still stumble into something like the person ranting about the flag. :piratedan

Well, seeing as how flag law is part of my day job, and as much as I hate to give some foaming X-boarder credit, they're right. The US flag is only to be half-staffed at the order of the President.

That said, I am 100% behind the decision to lower the Disney flag. That is something the Company has the authority to do, and in this case, I think they also have something of an obligation to do so in a case like this.

The correct way to do this is to fly the Disney flag at half-staff and not display any senior flags for the duration. Thus the US and any state flag should not be flown simultaneously. This would be very difficult in the Parks, especially MK or DL where Main Street is festooned with US flags and the Disney flag is not displayed, but it would be quite reasonable and proper to do so anywhere the Disney flag is normally flown.

But to lower the US flag -- when Disneyland didn't lower it for Walt -- is a bit of an insult, and in the Parks, an affront to the principle that "The Show Must Go On".

The President can order it, as can Governor's (for their state), but communities can also choose to fly their flags at half-staff as a sign of respect and mourning. Flags were at half-staff all along the way for the funeral of a friend's military son, for example. It may be that flags on Federal property are not lowered for anything less than Presidential order, but I know our police station lowers the U.S. flag for local stuff (although I suppose that could have been a state-wide lowering ordered by the Governor).

http://www.senate.gov/reference/resourc ... L30243.pdf

Not to start any major fights, as i agree that it is a sign of respect (see disclaimer below). But go to the bottom of page 13/ top of page 14 from the Senate Report on Flag Code. The last paragraph suggests that the code is a guideline and that there is no law (federal or otherwise) to forbid a private individual or organization from displaying their flag at half staff. That being said, there are guidelines/regulations on doing so such as the flag must be raised to full staff prior to lowering to half staff, then raised to full staff before lowering for the night. I just find it interesting how we rush to relearn information that all of us should have learned in school just to prove a point.

Just repeating what was stated on a government website, in no way does it necessarily reflect my position... Please make your own opinion from the information provided.

Unless you have an answer to a question and actually manage to stop a fight over there. I did in under two pages once, with one of my verbose answers. Of course, it's not the same name I use here...

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

The tone of a lot of discussion boards just turns me off quickly, and not just Disney related ones. There are exactly two boards where I enjoyed the tone tone of the discussions enough to join and post. Obviously this is one, and the other isn't Disney related at all.

There are lots of boards with great bits of information and great people, but it seems like a small number can make me move on.

So now you know the secret of getting rid of me. :D:

Glad to see a war did NOT break here. I did have a good laugh after reading a few of the posts over on X. I think the arguement continued for five more pages after the arguement should been over. It's like trying to determine what the definition of "is" is... :p:
