I'm in the same region as WEDFan it sounds like, Hudson/Mohawk Valleys. My particular town, being inland of the rivers, is doing fine, which is damn good because I'm in a partially underground apartment. Any flooding here and I'd be totally boned. Several surrounding areas, especially to the south, are a mess. As long as I don't have to go out of town anytime soon I'll be safe. A little worried about my parents who are trying to make their way back from Cape Cod, where they rode out the storm with my grandmother. I'm not entirely sure they'll be able to find a route that gets here. Lots of roads still closed with flooding.

Re: Hurricane Irene
Yup. We're not that far apart. The historic sites I'm talking about are Old Fort Johnson at the intersection of Rt 5 & 67 in the village of Fort Johnson, and the other is Guy Park Manor (Elwood Museum) on Route 5 in Amsterdam.Mayonnaise wrote:I'm in the same region as WEDFan it sounds like, Hudson/Mohawk Valleys.
Mess is an understatement. The lock gates in Amsterdam have been blown out. Major flooding now in Schenectady in hostoric distrtricts.
Re: Hurricane Irene
I, for one, am glad to hear our East Coast SGTers are okay.
They always overrate storm potential, which is known as erring on the side of caution. I mean, which would you choose--an exaggerated estimate of what's going to happen, or a downplayed version that ends in mass tragedy? Better that they predict a Cat 3 and it come out a Cat 1 than the other way around--or worse, it goes up to a Cat 5.
