So when I asked about a hot air balloon and got an answer about an airplane, yes that's the wrong answer.
But never mind. It appears that people here are in their "moods" today so I will go find the answer somewhere else.
I may be wrong,(sure as hell wont be the first time),but I'm pretty sure,if it 'flys' the FAA has jurisdiction. Short of a 'small' RC plane.
Where's than avation guy when you need him?

Just like to point out that when I think of "Force One" I think of either
1) Aerosmith's Fan Club
2) An Air Plane
Didn't realize the balloon had a name. I guess that must make the one at DTD "Worthless Waste of Space Force Once"

So by your logic. Just becasue it flies, then it's all the same. So a Balloon pilot has the same skill to fly a 747. And anyone that can fly a kite can jump into a F117A Jet and fly for the air force.

I am just going by what Disney called the balloon. "Ear-force One"

I think you may need to reread what he said, he said "if it 'flys' the FAA has jurisdiction" not that anything that flies is the same, they just fall under the same jurisdiction and regulations.

OKAY,I'll give a very good example. 3 years ago the place I worked at,wanted to fly/float a 'tethered' balloon/blimp for a tent sail we were having. As they were walking out of the warehouse with this thing,I asked if they checked with the FAA and/or the Air Force base. (the store is in the flight path) This balloon is no bigger than my Suburban btw. After a few phone calls,we got permission,AS LONG AS,it was no higher than the building and had to down before sunset. If not a MAJOR fine would be imposed.

A balloon pilot must have a pilots license and if they are carrying passengers they must have a commercial pilots license. I know several ballooners who do fly 747's for a living and then have their balloon for fun.
