Re: Just got back...
Got one three layers deep. This is from a Nuucleeeer Plant, so Homer Simpson related comments are appropriate.
AMSAC - ATWS Mitigation System Actuation Circuitry
ATWS - Anticipated Transient Without Scram
SCRAM - Safety Control Rod Axe Man
The very first reactor had a guy with an axe whose job it was to cut the rope pulling the control rods out in the event of an event.
So there. Three layers deep. Let the adulation begin. :D:

Thanks for the welcome. BTW, the wife and I are headed down in two days and will do our best to not be SG's.

Welcome, NuclearDad! I love right next to a Nuclear Power Plant! Additionally, my grandfather built two and my dad helped build one.
But, in the words of my other grandfather: D'oh!!!!

That is way too much information!! :D:DragonFox98 wrote:... I love right next to a Nuclear Power Plant! ...
My dad was a pipefitter who helped build a nuclear power plant in northern Colorado, and later he worked at the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons plant outside of Denver. For my 10th birthday he brought home a custom-made metal belt buckle he'd made for me, with my name in brass. At the time I just thought it was cool having something made for me by my dad -- now I think it's really cool having a belt buckle made in a nuclear weapons plant!

Does it have operating fuel rods?

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

Re: Just got back...
Years ago when I'd show the buckle off I'd say, "Nothing really interesting about it, except for where it was made. Of course, now I can never have children."
Then my two sons came along and ruined a good joke.

Sorry - I was typing too fast! Forgot to check my spelling. My dad is a milwright and basically an all-around construction guy, my gradfather was a foreman with years and years of construction equipment. You know, I think we have some of those belt buckles laying around somewhere, too!BRWombat wrote:That is way too much information!! :D:

When you fly in from TX, you'll probably see the one near where I live...it's Salem & Hope Creek Nuclear Power Plant. As a matter of fact, PSE&G just requested to purchase an additional 64 acres to build another plant....most people around here aren't happy - I think it's just fine. Better than burning coal any day (although, I would prefer wind energy, but this IS Jersey!).
