At least the hats are not required to wear. The idiots who decided Security and Rail Road conductors must wear hats at all times definitely never worked an outdoor post in the 106 degree heat we have been having lately.

Oh and Engineers are getting flame retardant shirts....just in time for summer.

OR how about the day (years ago) my black sneakers actually melted into the asphalt on Main Street when working out on the 3 pm parade route one day. Yeah globs of sneaker sole peeled off in the heat!

There are many more such WTF decisions made by Creative (we get it off the uniform shelf now) Costuming that we could start a new thread.

This is pretty much off topic, but that is not unusual for SGT. I am heading down that way the end of September for a convention and a few days at WDW. I am trying to organize my semi-retirement or at least have a goal or direction for it. Since most of my family is up north, I hesitate to live in Florida year round, but like many others I would like to be in that area during the winter months.

I would like to spend winters in Florida and summers back home but I don't know if that is even possible. Is there any part of the casting group that I might have the opportunity to at least talk with to try and determine if this is a doable thought. I have a CDL with passenger endorsement, eight years of experience driving RTS, Gilligs and a variety of tour buses. As of August I can retire if I so choose, but I will need at part time work to make everything work. Anyone that can give me advice would be appreciated.

Given a CDL and clean record, I can't believe we wouldn't be delighted to have you driving buses, too. There always seems to be a shortage of such.

I'll let the drivers here tell you about specific requirements for buses, but you will need a Florida residence and mailing address to start, and even though you may be hiring in part-time, you'll probably be asked to work full-time during training, so plan for that.

If you're ready to start next Winter, drop by the Casting Center on your next trip and talk to the folks there. (But bring a book, they can back up.)

Thanks for that encouraging response. I am ready to do this whenever the situations fall into place. I will definitely plan a visit, I assume to Casting, on my trip down this fall.

This may put a damper on working back in VT.

You need 2 weeks of FT availability to train and take the road test (even if you already have a CDL, Disney requires that you pass the road test)

The good news, Disney supplies the bus, examiner and pays for the license, the bad news, you are driving the rebuilt RTSII's 2770-2780

Yea, I knew about the license thing and haven't quite figured out how to do that at the moment.

The old RTS buses are fine with me. You usually can't get in trouble because you drive to fast and they are basic and simple. I don't see that as a problem. The big thing is the license.
