Back in the 80s, I was a security guard for a couple of years. One of my occaisonal posts was a landfill that was being assessed for methane production. One time my supervisor was driving me around in the dark at this place, so we could see deer, and he said one time he was driving around up there with one of his buddies. One night as they were driving, a big buck with five point antlers stepped into the road in front of their car before darting off. The buddy was quite upset; he said how he used to hunt and hardly ever saw a deer, and now that he'd given up hunting here this big buck was right there in front of them. He said he wished he had his gun with him so he could take that buck. My supervisor told him you can't do that in L.A.--it was near Griffith Park-- hunting is illegal inside city limits, as is discharging a firearm. Yeah, it's like Bambi and his relatives know they're safe in L.A..

Exactly. I have nothing for disgust for the people who go on canned hunts where an animal is released in front of them from a cage so they can shoot it. I can only imagine their male members are so tiny as to require a magnifying glass and a pair of tweezers to ever be found. Same thing with the loser who beat up Flower.

Flower update:

First, I'd like to thank you all again for your thoughts and offers to help out with the vet bills. It looks like the school took care of the medical but I'll let you know if the teacher needs any financial assistance.

Flower was moved out of her pen and into the pasture with the horses. One of the horses, Pepper, either sensed Flower had been hurt or just plain liked her and proceeded to lick her all over. Flower wasn't quite sure what to make of that.

My daughter says Flower blends into the background so she'll be hard to find. She also says Pepper is kinda mean and would probably attack any strangers in the pasture.

Flower is able to eat better but she needs to tilt her head to one side to move the food to her rear teeth.

I contacted two of the Honolulu TV stations to see if they were interested in the story. The ABC station (GO DISNEY!!!) called today while I was out and talked to my wife. She referred them to the school. The teacher said she'd be willing but she'd rather have a story about the positive aspects of the program. The TV people agreed so they'll probably be at the school tomorrow.

I'd rather see them focus on the assault to try and catch the bastard, but if can be a positive experience that helps the program then who am I to complain.

My wife and I are going up to the school to see the setup. I'll try to shoot some pics and post them.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

The local ABC station just had a segment about Flower. They used pictures sent by the teacher and included the one with her putting her chin on my daughter's stomach.

They interviewed the teacher by phone. She did say she turned it into a learning experience by having the kids research pain meds and the proper dosage.

The anchor did ask anyone who has information to contact the police.

Here's a link to the transcript. If I can find the video I'll post it.

'"Whoever it was, she probably walked up to them and was like, 'Hi, do you have Pepperidge Farm fish for me? Are you going to pet me?'" said Rosetta. "It's saddening. You think, who would do this?"'

That's the really sad part of this; an animal that is so trusting of people and is used to being around them, and then some monster beats the poor thing just for sick kicks.

hobie, SGT site is a fine community! We help our own, & if I remember correctly you were the first poster who began the giving for Katrina. Flower is now loved & cared for by many because you have compassion. What goes around... well you know. :) We have horses so absolutely know they sense the pain of others & lick, nuzzle to heal. Animals Love when humans don't/won't. :horse2: :horse3: :horse1:

UPDATE:

How do fish get caught? They open their mouths.

Goes for humans too. Our little deer beater has been opening his by bragging about beating Flower. Someone snitched and he's now under investigation. Hopefully an arrest occurs soon.

Flower continues to do well and is enjoying sharing the pasture with Pepper, the death to trespassers horse.
