Went to DLR today and thanked every CM I ran into. They were very appreciative!

Well the thank you is a lovely thing. However, let's try something even better.
After talking to a lot of tipped cast in various roles, seems that tons of guests are
not tipping at all. If they do tip, it is an insultingly low amount. Eg. $500 meal check (free dining plan) ==> $5 tip!
In case you do not know,
servers no longer get a 18% gratuity on a Disney Dining plan check from the company. It is solely up to the guest being served to TIP the cast member.
Tipped cast include: Bell services, valet, table service servers, bartenders, bar servers.
IF a Cast Member is NOT a tipped cast member, they will refuse tip. Do not be offended, please just pass that money onto another cast member when served.
Housekeepers are not considered tipped cast but tradition holds that they may receive tips left in the room labeled "Housekeeping" or "For the Housekeeper".
BTW, we are dealing with so many nasty (yeah, I mean NASTY) guests right now. Say your "thank you" but do not be surprised if we figure you are being snide or sarcastic. Trust me, had a few of those people last few days...almost threw one in the damned lake today.

Was it ever from the company or was it just included on the check as an additional charge, like a lot of places are doing now?

In regards to the tipping
Only a total maroon would not figure that out.
several trips ago we switched to the dining plan. They make it very clear that tips are NOT included. If you look at the bill presented, it TELLS you what the meals cost was, even if you are on the dining plan. And they are kind enough to tell you what 18% of that amount is, (btw 20% is my normal amount, and I have been know to go to 25%)
(plus 20% is eaiser to figure on the fly after some rum! heheheheheheh)
My guess is that these people wouldn't tip for any reason.
And last trip, I left an envelope every day for "mousekeepers" and three days running it was still on the desk where I left it! I guess CMs are honest to a fault, or did not know it was okay to take the tip?
Some people are just rude (and stupid) guests! They show that by not tipping for service, as is a custom just about everywhere in the world!

disneyprincess1988 wrote:Bru, you are so sweet to thank CMs like that. Mostly, I just get a simple "Thank you." and that's it from Guests when I'm working, but I rarely get a heartfelt "Thank you for making magic." or something similar. It is always much appreciated by CMs, trust me on that.
Bless your heart! I'm sorry I didn't get into the MK to thank cms while I was there. It's at the top of my list next time we go (though I did get to thank some MK cast I met in transit and other places)
So let me thank you personally, for all you do for your guests that they don't even realize. We're grateful!
hugs
