Or how about this one I heard on the Tonight Show a few years back, courtesy of Jay Leno (roughly paraphrased):

Michael Jackson went to a diner and ordered tater tots to eat. He eventually told the server "Forget the taters. Just bring me the tots."

HE will DEFINITELY be missed!! I loved his music!! He was so young too, like Bernie Mac!! They are playing a tribute to MJ on the radio right now, all his old hits, as well from Jackson 5.
Actually, in my mind, neither he or his music will be missed. His music will continue on forever, with or without him. He, like most prolific song writers, peak and no longer contribute to the new song writer list. They all seem to be burnt out by middle age. Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Billy Joel and others come to mind.

Now MJ as an adult was, for lack of a better term...WEIRD! Whether or not he was a "proven" pedophile, the evidence certainly suggests a lot of very, very inappropriate behavior involving young boys. Any one other than Michael Jackson would have been socially ostracized and punished for that kind of behavior. Just saying we don't respect you anymore is not enough. What he was involved with was wrong, wrong, wrong. Because he once wrote some nice music does not resolve that issue.

Please do not make this man a hero! He was not! I don't care what Elizabeth Taylor says.

Ah, I get to be the unpopular one yet again. I am going to use the statement I said on my Facebook after I had posted a picture with "RIP Michael, you will be missed" and then receiving a few snide remarks.

"You are entitled to your opinion, but I know in my case I am sad he is gone. He was an amazing entertainer, regardless of his personal life.

And I am sure I am not alone in thinking that."

I didn't find jokes about him funny when he was alive either. Maybe that makes me the odd duck out, but I was never ashamed to say I was a fan. Ever.

Too many folks forget or choose not to acknowledge just how many musicians and others in the industry owe their careers to his innovations and imagination.

I am not saying he didn't have some eccentricities. But what celebrity doesn't or didn't?

Who out there watched that Thriller video and thought so many different things and grew up to do them? Such as Rick Baker's makeup or John Landis' directing? Or being a band and knowing that they could push that envelope a bit more instead of the same things that were popular at the time?

I'm not saying he's a god, but take out your cd collection today. Look at it and think, "If Michael hadn't done all the things he did in his life, would this even exist?" I'd bet it wouldn't.

That's my soapbox and I'll thank you to put it back when you're done.

That's the Internet for ya. :(

Experiences like that are exactly why I have sworn off all message boards expect for this one. I also refuse to look at youtube comments.

I firmly believe that there are more bad people on the Internet then good. And nothing will change my mind. I have had far too many negative online experiences to think otherwise.

There are just far too many rude, sarcastic bigots out there.

It is sad that someone can't say something like RIP without getting snide remarks. Regardless of anyone's feelings about Micheal Jackson, it is sad that a life is lost. So I am sorry to hear that you were met with snide remarks.

For the most part, the Internet is just a cold, venomous, pit.

Sorry for my rant, but I just had to state all that.

Anonymity does that. I am sure that if you met those same people in real life they would be totally different.

Well, that's true.
Though that brings up the fact that many people on the Internet are cowards. They feel like they can get away with losing their filter and insulting a faceless screen name because they are hiding behind a computer and are not staring someone in the eye.

However someone feels about him, I think he had a sad life. This is not an excuse for anything he did wrong, just shows that someone who had all that money, fame and talent had plenty of problems. Seems like all of our heroes from the past are just turning out to be plain old fallible humans.
I hope most of us can put it all in perspective and feel like we ended up with a better life than his was.

And if those eccentricities didn't include young boys, I'd be right with you. If it makes me a bigot because I so strongly disapprove of the hero worship exhibited by those that are all too willing to forgive that pervert, then so be it...I will always and forever be labeled a bigot.

I can comfortably live with that!

And I do believe he had some really good music...it just doesn't outweigh the bad behavior.

...I know that you weren't directly addressing me, but you made refrences to things that I said, so I want to make myself clear.

I never called anyone here a bigot. And I never said that I excused his behavior. Truth be told, I never cared much for Micheal Jackson, but it is sad that a life is lost none the less. I'm willing to bet that his family is sad!
