We rescued two pups and named one Daisy the female (DW like that one) and Koda for the male.

Well, when the personalities came out the nicknames are now: for Daisy, Zena, warrior pup. And for Koda: Boober (yes, after a fraggle)

Does yours keep you laughing all the time? Ours sure does.

My cat Tripod I got from my now-deceased uncle, who started out with an intact female cat, who was indoor-outdoor. His neighbor had an intact tom who was also indoor-outdoor. You can figure out what happened next. My uncle gave away all the kittens but one gray male, who never got neutered. He grew up to cohabit with his mother and fathered two litters of kittens with her. She later disappeared and was found by a neighbor, a victim of the road. My uncle couldn't give away the remaining kittens, so Smoky the gray male fathered litters with his sister-daughters. Two litters were born within two weeks of each other, and both had six kittens each. One of the kittens in the youngger litter had only three legs; this became Tripod. I doubt if any of those cats are alive now, because Tripod turns 18 this April.

If that woman was so attached to her cats, why didn't she take her cat in and have her spayed? Why didn't she charge for them? People tend to discard things they get for free, including animals. Tripod is an exception, and I chose her because of her difference.

To all pet owners in California, I'd like to ask folks to read my blog on MySpace, address is in my siggy, for this month. Gov. Schwarzenegger is planning on adding a sales tax on veterinary services, which would raise vet care costs by 9%. As if it isn't bad enough that people are having to surrender their pets or abandon them because they can't take them with them because of no-pets rental housing they're forced to move into, due to the foreclosure crisis, now it's going to be even harder on people who choose to keep their pets. Shelters and rescues are full to bursting because of pets being relinquished. It's a sad, sick situation.

Strange cat names? None of that at Chez Zazu! We presently roster:

Oliver Cromwell (aka Ollie or Topsy)
Cleopatra Jones (aka Cleo or Mopsy)
C.D. Romulus (aka "Vlad the Impaler" or Flopsy)

and we are auditioning:

Robert the Bruce (aka Bob), who's a Siamese Manx.

Previous cats here have included:

Knucklehead Smiff
Dodger Blue*
Chester A. Arthur
James James Morrison Morrison Weatherby George Dupree
Thomas Aquinas
Erasmus
Squeaky Fromme*
Stuffy Sniff*
Rotbart (named for my father's allergist on the day he forbid farther from ever having a cat)

* Named by SWMBO

All came from shelters, friends, or wandered in off the street of their own accord. I'd never buy a cat, nor would I sell any of them for any amount of money.

Bonus points if you can name the animator.

I was quite obsessed with that movie as a small child.

MSN and Yahoo had a list of most popular pet names for dogs and cats, as well as off-beat names for both species. Interestingly, the most popular name for both was Max.

A Siamese Manx, huh? I used to own a Manx, but I've never owned a Siamese. I bet your kitty must give you a run for your money!

All but one of the cats I have owned have all been Siamese. They are rather "vocal".

My current cat, Lotus, likes to sit in the hallway and "sing". The hallway seems to have better acoustics than the rest of the house, I guess.

It' funny because, her "singing" is different from her standard meowing. Normally, she has a higher pitch, more demanding kind of meow. When she "sings" it's a long, low pitch, droning sound.. And so wonderful to hear at 3:00 am.

Whenever someone speaks of "owning" a cat, especially a Siamese, my natural suspicion is that they have never shared an abode with a cat at all. At the very least, it argues that your vocabulary is suspect.

Owning a cat indeed! Dogs get owned; cats get worshiped (or else!).
