My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Re: Attention all monorail personnel!
Years ago the Mark IV Silver monorail caught fire due to a flat tire rubbing on the beam and creating a lot of friction.felinefan wrote:What's this about a fire on the monorail?
From Wikipedia:
On June 26, 1985, a fire engulfed the rear car of the six-car Mark IV Silver monorail train in transit from the Epcot station to the Transportation and Ticket Center.[12] The train was carrying 240 passengers, 40 of whom were in the burning car.[13] This fire predated onboard fire detection systems, emergency exits, and evacuation planning. Passengers in the car kicked out side windows and climbed around the side of the train to reach the roof, where they were subsequently rescued by the Reedy Creek Fire Department.[12] Seven passengers were hospitalized for smoke inhalation or other minor injuries.[14] The fire department later determined that the fire started when a flat tire was dragged across the concrete beam, heated due to friction, and ignited.[15]

Re: Attention all monorail personnel!
1996 one of the monorails started smoking and there have been lightening strikes like in 2001. the one in the 1980's finally got Disney and local government to realize how the monorails did not have enough exits.

Re: Attention all monorail personnel!
I remember a few years back in the summer time, there was a blackout that occured at Disneyland. I remember seeing the monorail stuck on the beam next to the Small World Mall. After guests being stuck in the monorail for 45 minutes on a 90 plus day, the area was cleared so the fire department could come in and get everyone off by a cherry picker.

Re: Attention all monorail personnel!
Ok, lets see...Big Wallaby wrote:11) At most, how many people can be operating a Monorail at one time in the United States? Fewer than 20. Twelve at WDW, 2 in Seattle and up to 4 at Disneyland.
WDW - Up to 12
Seattle - 2 Trains, 2 Drivers
DLR - Max of 3 Trains at once, 3 Drivers
Magic Mountain - If it ever ran anymore, I think they had 2 trains at a time. Don't remember if it had a driver or not. I think it did...
Miami Metro Zoo - Has a Monorail? Cool... Again, dunno if it has a driver/operator or not.
Las Vegas - How many trains and Drivers/Operators?
Yay for Monorails.org and their listing on North American Monorails.
Though I don't imagine that the number will ever be much higher then 20 people at a time. Unless the right things happen in the next few years and such.

Re: Attention all monorail personnel!
Bush Gardens Tampa used to run a suspended monorail through their Africa section but it was shut down in 1999.
