Selling fastpasses on ebay
Re: Selling fastpasses on ebay
There are a few businesses that use Beep Beep the Roadrunner for their businesses, one is a car repair or junkyard, the other is a little coffee place called Beeps near the Whiteman Airport in Van Nuys. But the roadrunners are carefully altered, so they only vaguely resemble the Warner Bros. version. Smart move.
I remember in the 60s there was this kid who wore a T-shirt with the likenesses of Lucy, Peppermint Patty, Sally and the other girl in Peanuts whose name I forget--blonde with plaid dress and hairbow--but they all had visibly pregnant bellies stretching their little-girl dresses, and they were shouting together, "Damn you, Charlie Brown!" One time I saw a shop in a drab, industrial part of Van Nuys--forget what I was there for--and they had some signs featuring the Peanuts characters in very un-Peanuts activities. One featured Lucy and Charlie Brown in the water, and Lucy was yelling at Charlie Brown,"Dammit, Charlie Brown, I will not sink if you take it out!" Sorry for the non-family-friendly content; I promise not to do it again.

Problem for Disney with pursuing these is that Cinderella et. all are pretty much in the public domain. You can represent yourself as the Disney version, but you are free to call yourself any of those princesses because they are from old fairy tales.accioetoile wrote:I have one girl on my facebook, who is a princess at one of these companies. She dressed up as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Alice, and other princesses, and has pictures all over her facebook. She's said her boss buys all the costumes and wigs. I'm sure they aren't Disney sanctioned, so are they just too far away for Disney to deal with?
They couldn't go around as Giselle, however, unless they wanted a suit because Disney created and owns that character. They would also have to say they are the Little Mermaid generically, not Ariel the Little Mermaid...same with Sleeping Beauty (could not be named Aurora or Briar Rose).
"If you are a dee, please don't marry a dee, 'cause then your kids will be dee dee dee." ....Carlos Mencia

I don't know. Most of the Princesse's names come from thier original fairy tales. But, they can't appear to be a Disney version. which sort of leavesSyndrome wrote:Problem for Disney with pursuing these is that Cinderella et. all are pretty much in the public domain. it wide open. most of the princesses have been around for 100's of years,
and a lot are public domain. but Disney made them famous. but also, they can't portrait a licensed charactor, like Wendy from Peter Pan. without thier owners permission. sort of like the fight over Pooh and his friends.

And aren't Winnie the Pooh characters originated by A.A. Milne - created by another author as the same way the Princesses were created by Grimm and other authors?
Seems as some things like "face" characters are able to slide by.

but Pooh and his friends still have owners, Milne sold his grandfathers property to some company years ago. Pan and his people are still owned bySarah Magdalene wrote:But one of those companies does use those names ... <<. We also have Princesses like Cinderella, Belle, Aurora, & Snow White>>

I wondered about those myself. I guess I could email Disney legal and see what they have to say about those parties. They are going on all over the place. I know that those are all very old fairytales, but are the characters owned by Disney? I don't know that they could own the characters as their own. Disney made their own movies and merch, which tend to be the standard now by which those characters are measured, but the question is, do they OWN the characters from the fairytales. I don't think so, which is why you can find so much merch of these Princess characters and it is not made by Disney. I think they are in the public domain.Sarah Magdalene wrote:What about those party places that offer Princess "Look Alikes" to some to their party - decked out in very similar costumes that the real gals use? I seen may of them advertised on the net such as http://www.fairytalehome.com/
and http://www.tiarasandtreasuresparties.co ... Visit.html
Disney isn't going to sue to the use of them either?
I believe that Disney has a contract for the Pooh characters, do they not? That is why they can legally stop the use of their likeness. The Milne family reps made some sort of deal with Disney for the use and reproduction of those characters, a lucrative deal for both Disney and the Milne estate.
Interesting though, so many people trying to make money off Disney without being affiliated with them. The Mighty Mouse will swat them down!
