my boss would show up at the dog grooming salon with a hang over. I was not to mention stake, steak, chicken, pizza or any food or drinks in front of her. She would get sick at the idea of food until the hang over went away. It took her a long time to get over the hang overs.

My boss does not understand the concept of "unmovable commitment" outside of work. I work a 9-6 job on salary, and he still can't seem to wrap his head around "I'm sorry. I can't stay," when he drops 40 more things on my desk at 5:55. He gives me crap about how it's important and it has to be done because it's ever so critical. Then where was this when I was supposed to have it last Tuesday?

But then I leave anyhow... I'm not going to call up my downstairs neighbor and go "Sorry, I can't watch your kids for you tonight. I'm stuck at work, but I bet you'll have a great anniversary at home with the toddlers!!!" I'm not going to call the stage manager and tell her "Sorry, the show will be down one person tonight, but I'm sure someone from the chorus can learn my lines, you've got 2 hours to curtain!!!"

One of my co-workers had to go home on time one night because his girl friend, who lived with her parents, had a tiff with them and was waiting for him on his doorstep. The Bosses reply: "Doesn't she have any other friends she could stay with?"

All of those sound like they're right out of Dilbert.

My management chain is good about stuff like that, unless it is an emergency. Something about being part of national infrastructure and security factors into it though :)

My co-workers and I actually joke that we should try and get away with an
"Is this good for the COMPANY?" banner hung in the Dev Room.

Also if they move my desk one more time... I'm going to burn down the building.
