Every time we have gone to WDW so far it's been February, March and April so this is something new. :D:
They'll definitely be there the end of May. They are just these annoying flying bugs. Don't bite or sting or anything - kind of like house flies. But there are SO MANY of them and they tend to congregate in large groups (bug orgies?) so it makes them even creepier. Just ignore them. Don't try and kill them as they give off a nasty oder.

Added note: They are small but fly "united" and just kind of drift slowly around through the air. They are not as fat or as irritating as house flies (or as dirty). They are a seasonal annoyance for we who live in the southeast. They are particularly attracted to white and yellow colors, so if they are bad while you are there, try wearing a different color clothing. You can easily brush them off your skin or clothes, but GaTechGal is right, they have a bitter taste and that's why you don't see birds swooping down to pick them up. I did see dragonflies feasting on them once, but there aren't enough dragonflies for the amount of love bugs present, unfortunately.

I'm suprised that WDW dosn't have more "bat" houses to take care of the bug problem. Except the poor guys would come out at night and give some "added value" magic to a guests experience, and possibly get into the fireworks!

ROFLMAO what a mental picture!

As someone who got 'rained' on by the fireworks themselves the last time we saw Illuminations- and it was a good thing I was wearing a rain poncho lemme tell ya- that was bad enough. I was tasting the stuff before the show was over. Note to self- if you're downwind of the fallout on a windy night, don't suffer in silence, MOVE!

I went to the P&P Party tonight and was right in front of the Partners Statue for the fireworks. Well, during the show there are explosions on the castle itself. The wind was just right to send all of the smoke and debris from them over the Hub. It made me cough and bothered my eyes a little bit. I was standing next to a Photopass photographer I know (he was there to take pictures of people with the statue) and it really bothered his eyes. It appears my glasses helped keep the crap out of my eyes mostly.
