And there are days I look for an excuse to throw the supervisor/manager sitting in the chair instead. At least the chair provides me with a service and supports me in the performance of my duties.

BTW OT note. I may be short tempered or surly sometimes for the next while. I have been informed that in June my position (that I have had for over 20 years) will be eliminated. Luckilly I have more seniority than anyone else (including my boss) so I will still have a job but my choices are about as good as a choice between snorkling in the sewer or scuba in an active volcano. I will try to let my fun side show when I am here but please forgive me if I occasionally allow some of the steam buildup to exit my ears while I am here.

Sorry to hear that, Randy. Vent away. That's what we're here for. (Although GP is also here for the RUM!)

Close but not there yet. At the earliest chance I could retire in 3 years. But to get best benefits I would be here for another 8 to 13 years (depending on conditions at the time. (shrug)

One of the biggest problems is the likely positions I could move laterally into would make my shift be much earlier (making it more difficult to be on line) and in a place where internet access will be severely limited (I may not have access to SGT for example). I can use my personal laptop for access through a semi public wi-fi connect which means I won't be totally locked out, but having time and a location to put the computer for the intermittant "check in" may be tough. And this is on top of my apartment changing owners and changing rules that have ticked me off so much that I am also moving this summer (and I have no idea where I can afford to move to). This is definately the year of change and confusion. And to make it worse I had already figured that within 2 years I would have been secure enough to finally buy a house and get out of the entire "landlord" and rental property hastle. Who knows how this will all impact that. (shrug) But no matter what I can be sure that I will be coming down to visit my favorite home away from home, WDW in early Dec. And this time I am determined to find more of you CMs to meet face to face than I managed last year.

BTW for those who enjoyed the photos of the monorail layout, the move has required me to begin the careful deconstruction of the entire thing. This is good and bad. Bad because I have to take apart all that hard work. The good will be when I finally do get into a more permanent location I can start over with many more ideas for improvements and possibly more space to fit it all into.

That's what I did and now I'm a Cast Member myself.

As much as I would love it it isn't gonna happen. First I am VERY attached to keeping my full beard and mustach (strike one) (haven't been without the facial fuzz since I was 18). I don't deal with heat well (strike two). I don't deal with intentional idiots well, like some of the more pushy SGs reported around here, and would not be able to hold back for very long (strike three). And to make sure to kill hope of CM dreams, I have very strong ties to Champaign, and would find it very disorienting to live anywhere else. I love traveling and love visiting many places (I had my first birthday in Yellowstone and have visited every state in the union except Alaska and Hawaii. Maybe someday). But a move to Fla just isn't in the cards for me. But if the insanity around here continues I may just hang around until I can retire with minimum benefits (3 years) and then become a snowbird. Then I could shave (shudder) and work half the year.

If the beard is a deal breaker, you could always work at Universal. They permit them.

There are plenty of backstage roles where you possibly keep your beard. The "Disney Look" mostly applies to anybody who works with guests, if you're in a role where you have no contact with guests then the beard may be allowed.

Yeah, but without all that facial hair, maybe you could tolerate the heat better! :D:
Sincerely though, Randy, I hope you end up in a job you enjoy, or can at least tolerate, and that you find a decent place to live that you can afford so you'll eventually be able to get into your own place. I also hope you can keep your internet access so we can enjoy your lively and entertaining posts on SGT. :)
