At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.
Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

From the LA Times
Disney to offer ride wait-time updates via cellphone
My friend and colleague Dawn Chmielewski reports that starting next year, visitors to Disney theme parks will be able to use their cellphones to check ride wait times, locate restaurants and find characters as well as receive admission discounts and merchandise deals.
Disneyland and Walt Disney World visitors would have to download an application to their Verizon Wireless phones to access the information. Some information would be available regardless of your wireless company.
Back in January, Disneyland tested a similar program using a standard Nintendo DS portable videogame player that let theme park visitors check ride wait times, locate walk-around characters and plot a time-efficient strategy for visiting the most popular attractions.
In 2007, Disney applied for a patent that imagined a day when theme park visitors could use cellphones to book a FastPass, the theme park giant’s ride reservation system that allows visitors to return at a designated time and enter via a shorter line.

And I thought it was extreme when I called Web Laundry Services one time about losing money in a washer in an apartment complex I used to live in, and on their hold message they said you can now get an email notification when your wash is done.

Re: Technology News
I like one of the uses that was talked about in the article, using it to pay for items at a water park. That would be a good idea to use at Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, that way guests don't have to carry any money around or have to go back to their locker to get money when they want something.DisneyMom wrote:At Last a way to Id the SGs without them being the wiser! :p: Maybe it will be used as a FP or to reduce line cutting someday! ;)
They can even stamp a Photopass barcode on there and it can also be the guest's Photopass while visiting the water park.

Wet N Wild ran a trial of this one summer, I don't think it worked though since I haven't seen it since then.Shorty82 wrote:I like one of the uses that was talked about in the article, using it to pay for items at a water park.
