if i get scheduled a grad nite this year, there will be hell to pay. Thank god my location isn't open. Its just club Super Estrella.... My first year in the park when i worked at Coke Corner, i remember a guy telling me that his brother had a gun and was pissed off.... i tell you, security was on that guy as fast as i've ever seen them move. Its an interesting atmosphere, especially since they too get tired and cranky....

ohhh man....I got to help out with main entrance guest control inside the park at the beginning of a grad nite. I wanted to smack so many of those little punks. I saw one of the kids coming back through the tunnel (they're supposed to enter and go all the way through the tunnel to Main Street and not come back out) so I stopped him.

Me: You're gonna have to go back through the tunnel, please.
Him (trying to sound like a tough guy): What if I have to wait for people and shit?
Me: You can wait for them on the other side of the tunnel. And I'd appreciate it if you didn't use that kind of language with me. (I threw that in just to be a punk)
Him: What fucking language?
Me (waving my flashlight as if directing an airplane): All the way through the tunnel.
Him: What fucking language?
Me (still motioning for him to move): All the way through the tunnel.

This went back and forth a couple more times before he finally went back through. I got my way and managed to piss him off so that made my night.

When I was there for my high school Grad Night many moons ago I remember being really surprised by what I saw some of the kids doing. But when one of the kids from my own class got caught with alcohol on him they kicked him completely out of the park. But, thankfully, my school also layed down the law on him. They called his parents (at dark o'clock in the morning) and made them buy a plane ticket to fly him back home asap. They also didn't let him walk during our graduation.

So, whatever you guys do to the kids at the parks-you can probably also guarantee that they get even more layed down on them by their school. (and more than likely, their parents as well)

Not always true. I've seen quite a few chaperones who don't care if the kids get caught doing something stupid. And if they don't care I'm sure the kids' parents and school administrators won't find out that they got in trouble. Of course this makes the rest of us wonder what the hell they're doing as chaperones, but that's another debate for another day.

Chaparones are almost useless, & they don't believe their group of angels would ever commit the acts we CMs actually see.

Well, for the past couple of weeks I have only been lurking but I have to respectfully put my 2 cents in now.

I chaperoned for a local high school for 10 years, 9 trips to WDW & 1 trip to IOA. Every year before the kids get on the bus they are subjected to a very thorough search, not only of their person, where we check to enforce Disney's dress code & for any hidden items, but of everything that goes with them on the bus ~ purses, wallets, pillows, cd's, extra clothes, deodorant & other personal items. BTW ~ while I am glad that Disney has a dress code for graduates, have you ever tried to explain to a parent that new jeans are still considered jeans & are not allowed! That when Disney says no strapless tops they mean tube tops too!! We have turned several graduates around & sent them to Walmart minutes before the bus left!! Never mind ~ I know that ya'll have to explain the obvious to idiot guests all day every day!!

I know first hand that my "group of angels" are far from angels, :twisted: they are teenagers that have to prove they are smarter than any adult/authority figure. The very first year I went we did not search the kids & 3 of them did get through with some acid, one kid tripped on the acid in the park & our lead chaperone got to spend some quality time with him the in the hospital until his parents got there. I think his only punishment once he got home was he wasn't able to march with his class. His little stunt held up all the buses for about 5 hours, we couldn't leave until the lead chaperone got back from the hospital. We drive down one afternoon arriving just in time for the kick off party & then drive back when the park closes the next morning.

You have to remember, as chaperones we have absolutely no control over students that are not our own & the chances of running into our kids are slim. As chaperones we are told that the lead chaperone has the Disney supplied pager & unless that goes off & we are called, we are free to wander the park as a guest.

You'll notice that I said that I said I "chaperoned" past tense ~ the kids from our school, for some reason, have decided that they would rather go to IOA than WDW & I now REFUSE to go. The people at IOA don't have a clue how to handle grad nite & they have no idea how to treat a chaperone. I hold WDW CM's in very high regard, I do realize what crap you have to put up with on a daily basis, it's not fair that you have to be subjected to it on Grad Nite too.

If the kids ever decide to go back to WDW I might decide that a 6 hour bus ride (one way) with 40 16/17 yr. olds, staying up over 36 hours, putting up with 40 kids that won't clean up their own mess, putting up with MAJOR attitude problems (both kids & other chaperones!) & buses that break down every year is worth it.

Oh yeah, chaperones do this for free. The only compensation a chaperone gets for putting up with all of it is free admission into the park & the free breakfast WDW gives us.

^ Sadly Disneyland doesn't enforce a dress code anymore. The things I see the grads wearing. My lead once said "If I ever caught my own daughter wearing that or owning that...." If you're dressed better you tend to act better.

Oh, I dunno, I've used them a couple of times during my few Grad Night shifts.

Caught three kids smoking one night. Told them to empty their pockets of all smokes, matches and lighters and I'd let them go back and play.

Two did so, and promptly bugged. The third gave up his smokes, but said he couldn't give me his lighter. "It's my grandfather's, and my dad doesn't know I have it!"

"It's your choice, buddy. Either give me the lighter or spend the night playing canasta with the chaperones."

He paled. "Will I get the lighter back?"

"Nope."

Gotta admire his moxie. He squared his shoulders and said, "Canasta it is then."

Marched him over to Columbia Harbor House. When we entered, everything went silent as all eyes turned to us.

"Well, which of you is going to claim him?"

A man with the appearance of Chernabog and the voice of James Earl Jones slowly stood up and intoned, "He's mine...." :chernabog

Somehow, I don't think the kid spent much time that night at the canasta table. :twisted:
