Re: Can I just vent about something? V&As new kid ban...
As much as I love my daughter, sometimes it's too much for kids of any age (especially a 2 yr old) to sit that long and eat. BW and Zazu got to meet her, so they understand :D:
She wasn't horrible, but she certainly wasn't her best. Now if you want to watch a kid make some noise and play...
Thankfully the area around us was empty. Oh, this was at the Brown Derby at the Studios.

This seems completely reasonable to me.
I've been to some "nicer" restaurants at WDW (Le Cellier, Brown Derby) and I've been there when kids have been around. For the most part, they're well-behaved and good, but I do notice that the noise level is a little higher than you would expect. (Then again, my parents, aunt, uncle, and I were roaring laughing at the Year of a Million Dreams Glow-Tini ice cube, and I was thoroughly enjoying the Food and Wine festival at that point :D :)
I'm not against kids in those kinds of restaurants, but it makes me wonder whether the kids would even appreciate the setting. (Lord knows I didn't eat filet mignon when I was 8.) I could certainly understand why, in a place like Victoria and Albert's, they'd want a less cacophonous setting. And it's not like Disney doesn't offer child supervision services. It seems that, if a couple can afford $300 for dinner, they could probably also afford to put the kid(s) in a childcare program for the night.
Now, the real challenge might be at Pleasure Island, where you'd have to explain to the kids that they can't have the Jell-O shots!
(True story: my uncle bought the bunch of us said shots on the street of PI a few years back when I was still in college. Still one of the highlights of a lifetime of Disney experiences.)

My neighbor owns two restaurants and a luau on the beach in Lahaina. The restaurants are high end but do have a kids menu. The best part for the kids is, if they get antsy (mine do), they can walk through the hedge and hang out on the beach.

The fish is so fresh I've seen it being carried in the door and it's on the table a half hour later.

I wanna eat there. With the approaching cloud bank that is just full of cold and icy snow, that looks like a place I want to got to, RIGHT NOW! Remind me to have you remind me :hysteria: when I plan our Christmas trip to Hawaii to get the name of that place. I am working on Raffle to get him to Hawaii for Mele Kalikimaka this year. No Disneyland this time. If we can't get to Hawaii, then I want WDW at least for a week.hobie16 wrote:My neighbor owns two restaurants and a luau on the beach in Lahaina. Me too Sooze!!!
I am so sick of cold. I have always been drawn to Hawaii, not sure why. Maybe the Kona coffee? ;) I am terrified to fly, so thus far, have not made the trip..the 2-1/2 hours to FL is stressful for me.
I did tell John that if we make the trip to DL (I about have him convinced we need to), we are making it a double trip and going to Hawaii, too. DD4 has gone to SeaWorld once just with my older sister and has already decided THEIR next trip needs to be to Hawaii. :D:

We went to V&A's last Feb..it was our Christmas/Anniversary present to each other. It is a LONNNNNG meal. We did something like 10 courses over 3 hours. WE were getting antsy. :)
We did the Chef's Table in the kitchen. Really great food, although I did decide I do NOT like foie gras. Ugh. It was like snot. We ate it all anyway. We felt obligated to because the chef came and talked to us and we didn't want him to think we didn't like his cooking.
We didn't do the wine pairings (I don't drink often and was afraid I would end up on my face), but I was glad I had 1 glass. I downed that when the bill came.

I think I may actually have eaten there. Don't remember the name of it though.hobie16 wrote:My neighbor owns two restaurants and a luau on the beach in Lahaina. It's Pacific'o, 505 Front Street. It's sister location, I'o, is next door. Pacific'o is also a great place for lunch. Sit at the bar and schmooze with Pepe the bartender while watching the tourists learn how to surf. There's usually a nice onshore breeze so it's a very pleasant way to kill few hours.hhsrat wrote:I think I may actually have eaten there. Don't remember the name of it though.
If you come at Christmas time we'll get you set up with reservations at 5:30 so you can see the sunset.

DW liked it more than I, she has a much more refind palate. Too many years of grabbing a meal on the run at work. The wine was good and spread out, as I need food with alcohol. It was fun, but I can't see doing it again any time soon. We like a more casual place, where you don't have to dress for dinner if you don't want to. HEY on vacation!!!!StephM wrote:Piratemeister ;) -
