Probably just taking down the Christmas theming.

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious…
and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

Haha! That is such an awesome idea! I worked last night (NYE) 'til one, and actually it wasn't half bad. I was happily surprised by the fact that although the park was packed, the guests were all in a much much better mood than the christmas day guests. I had so many be nice and helpful, or complimentary, it was fun. I was over on the bridge in front of Plaza Gardens all evening, keeping the bridge free of people stopping, and keeping the bridge traffic one way traffic, by myself all evening. It was a blast, and I kept things working, and at midnight, my bridge was clear!

I had fun, I had a blast, and I didn't even drink any energy drinks. I really do love guest control - it's like a big game to me. And believe me, it's like the most fun I've ever had. Even when things go terribly wrong, and we fail horribly, it makes a hell of a story!

I've actually been making Guest Control keychains for my coworkers for christmas and new years. They look like miniature yellow flashlights with pink cones on top. I've given away like 40 of them - so if you see anyone with one of those keychains, then you've just met someone who knows me.

One thing I don't like about guest control, though, is the parade/fantasmic rivalry. I lived in blissful ignorance of that for a while, until I worked a fantasmic shift, and the lead make fun and put down us parades people. Not cool - we do a good job, and we try hard. They have an easier job (I've worked both, and really, their walkways are a LOT easier to deal with) and still think they are elite.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Happy New Year!!

I wonder if the Christmas guests are all stressed about shopping and getting/giving gifts and sending cards and such?

With New Years, all you need are some silly hats, noise makers and (rum for the adults) beverages, and just wait for it to happen!

Small World is going down for a very long refurb. While shorty is right, it does take awhile to take off Christmas decorations (2-3 weeks) This refurb is extensive. We're getting a new flume and new boats. They are both original and therefore over 40 years old, so it is time for replacements. Don't believe what you may read on the internet or the news about our rehab, it really is just because they're old and it's time for new ones.

I just realized that I hit jabberjaw status, I think it was with this post, but whatever, I've only been on the site for like 3 years obviously I don't talk a lot.

I read somewhere the flume is being deepened because the boats ride lower due to our McDonald's fueled lifestyle.

That's exactly what is wrong, thanks Al Lutz (I think that's who it was who told that information as factual) I am so tired of having to explain to guests that no, we are not closing to get a new flume because people are fat (and that's how the guests say it to me, not how I would put it)

Okay, the flume is going to be deepened, but one inch, but to be perfectly honest with you when boats get stuck it is not that the entire weight of the boat is too heavy it is that the front is heavier than the back (or vice versa) It's not even that there are heavier adults in the back, it's often a case of kids in the front adults in the back, so the back is heavier and since it's a boat it floats with the back further down and hence gets stuck. By having the flume one inch deeper we are hoping that this will be less of a problem, but this particular situation of boats occasionally getting stuck has been a problem since the beginning and it is almost always a situation of a badly balanced boat. (Sometimes it's a problem with the boat)

I don't read a lot of that stuff, after taking the long behind the scenes tour at WDW, and see them refurbishing a peter pan gondola and some splash rides, of course they have to do upkeep!
