Did they ever solve the problem of mongoose overrunning Oahu? Did they ever solve the problem of deciding what the plural of mongoose is? :D:

The rainy season is Nov-Mar but it depends where you are on the island to get any. We're in the wind shadow of the West Maui mountains so unless the clouds are higher, we may only see some drizzle. Here's an example: It'll be raining cats and dogs in Kapalua, a beautiful day in Ka'anapali and sweltering in Lahaina. That over nine miles.

It will rain in the summer but not very much and the storms blow by pretty fast.

I hadn't heard about the mongooses overrunning Oahu. I see them all the time when I'm biking through the pine fields. The mongoose was imported into the islands to control the rats. Problem is the mongoose is active during the day; rats are nocturnal. Doh!

The big pest now is the coki frog. They snuck in on plants from Puerto Rico. They're about an inch long and scream "COKKIIII!!" at 120 dB. Imagine a couple thousand of these little guys going at it all night. The Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua no longer has to.

What will they bring in to control the frogs? and after that, to control that population that goes wild, and after that....??

Spray citric acid or hydrated lime. Set PVC T traps.

Kinda. It burns them.

Other solutions are:
Bath the plants in 130 degree water for five minutes and cool for one. That'll kill the frogs and eggs but not hurt the plant.

Catch them, put them in a Zip Lock bag and freeze.

Highly caffeinated water was also proposed but some whack job made a big stink with the EPA and they pulled their approval. The whack job actually wanted to save them.

The Big Island is the worst. There are some areas that have been given up on. Beyond the noise, and it is loud, property owners have to disclose the problem when they sell.
