I like your thinking. Tim "The Toolman" Taylor should be brought in as a consultant.ktulu wrote:Well, first of all just smashing a window to save a child or pet from a hot car is just, well, plain silly.
In addition to smashing the window, they should pull out the jaws of life and rip the doors off, remove the roof and just for good measure, make sure all of the sheet metal has crease or two in it.

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

My dog would let me know when she wanted to walk. She would grab the leash and follow us around the house with it. Then once one of us gave her attention, she would get excited and start hopping around while putting it on her collar.Goofyernmost wrote:

Your dog has no say in the matter. The dog cannot tell you that it doesn't feel 100% today and that running will be painful. You decide the speed to run, ride, skate or travel. The poor dog has no choice but to try it's best to keep up.
I know it isn't intended but in my mind this can be a form of animal cruelty. I've seen dogs with their tongues practically touching the ground, stumbling and even falling. It just seems wrong to me. Can anyone explain why this is done on such a regular basis and why it is OK?
It was pretty obvious she wanted to walk. Always been her choice.

You forgot the rescue saw. Chop up the car into 'bite sized' peices, body, frame, drive train. :twisted:ktulu wrote:Well, first of all just smashing a window to save a child or pet from a hot car is just, well, plain silly.

Many dogs like to run for exercise. Their comfortable travel speed tends to be quite a bit faster than most humans are comfortable with. Thus many people exercising their dogs find themselves being pulled along down the street. So some of us tried using a bicycle to keep up. The trick is to let the dog set the pace and just match it with the bike. There is a problem tho. If your dog is anything like my dog (many years gone to the dog run in the sky after a very long life), they have a passion for small furry creatures that hop. When on a run, if one is spotted in a yard, or is flushed from cover along the roadway, the dog tends to abandon whatever destination it had in mind and make an immediate course correction in the direction of the small furry critter. Most often this is at a 90 deg angle to the long axis of the bicycle. The resuit is an abrupt and painful contact between the bike rider and the road surface.Goofyernmost wrote:I'm not a pet owner...I like animals but I am too self centered to take the proper care of one, so I let it go. I have taken care of things all my life and now I want to only have to worry about myself.
Since I do not own one, I was wondering something. Many times I have seen people out running with their dogs, riding bikes with the dog, on a leash, running along beside them, people skateboarding with a leashed dog running and, in my town, there is a gentleman in a motorized wheelchair that sometimes literally drags the dog behind him.
Now I know that all these things will be justified by saying "I'm just exercising my dog." The problem I have with that is that as the owner all these decisions are your's. Your dog has no say in the matter. The dog cannot tell you that it doesn't feel 100% today and that running will be painful. You decide the speed to run, ride, skate or travel. Some time after learning this truth I had a good example of how much force a small, determined dog can exert. This was back in the late 60s and my grandfather had a VW Bug. He came for a visit and parked in our drive. He left the car in 1st gear. I hooked my dogs leash on the bumper while I spoke to my grandfather. My dog, a terrior mix, with a choke collar, spotted a bunny and preceded to pull the car halfway down the drive before we noticed.
Now I agree that when exercising a dog with a vehicle, you do need to set the pace to the dog and let them decide when to stop and how fast to go. But I have experience that dogs will regularly run along with a tongue hanging out and panting like crazy and actually show indications that I wants to "take it out of first gear and really open up".

My 2 beautiful American Cockers go to DLR Kennel if we are leaving on a long road trip. They like the kennel on Property & I know they are safe. :dog8: My Calico always goes to a very competent sitter where she is spoiled & protected. :supercat: My horse always has care & a modern stable. BTW, next to his stall is a large beer cooler. darph would love this set up. :D:

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

LOL No, Jakota :horse2: leaves this to my brothers. :D: No trigger on very old Coke container. Only bottles & cans are used by the "incorrigibles." I then recycle all @ DLR for the Guide Dog Project. :dog1:Randy B wrote:Has your horse figured how to trigger the beer dispenser yet? :D:
