Sounds like you got the cooks tour. It's always better when you get someone who knows the area to show you around.

Which port did you hit on Maui? If it was Lahaina you probably saw the Halloween wreck on the reef that's been there for almost four years. We do junior sailing classes inside the reef on small boats. We'll take the kids over the reef and sail around the moored boats for fun. The kids like to surf the boats back in. I live about five miles north of the Lahaina harbor.

He said he was shocked at how nice it is, and also that Pearl Harbor is not the #1 choice of those entering the navy!
It's gotten to the point that if you're within a half mile of the beach and have a view, it'll cost a million.

Pearl probably isn't a high choice because of the cost of living. Thank Gawd for Costco!!! The PX/BX probably has good prices too.

I run into a lot of people that say, "I was here on spring break/summer vacation/business trip and never went back." :stitch:

My wife would like to talk to your ex. Any chance you could swing it? Any chance your ex still has the necessary ratings? The pay won't be that good, but we'll make it worth her (and your) while.

I smell a new business opportunity for Wallaby, Helecopter tours. Liz will fly and Bryan will speil.

No MiM's here!

Instead of tours you could pick up guests in the parking lot at their hotel and parachute them to the resorts.

Can I be in reservations, flight attendent with a cute outfit, or ticket taker?

Tell your wife she needs to talk to my buddy, not sure if he's going to get his CFI and train Helo's or not, but he can answer any questions and dispel any myth's, plus he will tell it like it is and not sugar coat anything. If he gets off his ass and books his trip I can try and swing by when your wife is working if she gets a chance to chat with a couple SG's ;)

Yes, K-Bay we called it. They used to have a beautiful R&R center right on the beach where you could rent rustic little cabins. The water there is so beautiful and the beach just so...so... Hawaiian!

Unfortunately, my ex was a very unhappy person and committed suicide in 1992. Guess you'd better take Ktulu up on his offer instead.

Back in the late 60s we owned a 1941 Aeronca Chief tail dragger with fabric covered wings. Ex (not ex at the time, of course) was stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and on weekends we would fly that little plane down to Dog Island in the Gulf and land on the sod strip there. The only way to get there was by boat or plane. We'd go fishing and wander the beach and bring home bags full of beautiful unbroken seashells. I was the navigator and learned to read a chart pretty well. I even got to pilot a few times and managed to keep the wings straight and level.

We didn't have any navigational aids other than an air speed indicator and altimeter, not even a radio, and I was always scared to death that big fluffy clouds would suddenly cover the sky and we wouldn't be able to see the ground and the Cloud Crawlers would come out and sit on our wings and make our plane too heavy to fly and we'd crash! (Sorry, guess I got a little carried away. That episode of the Twilight Zone about the Cloud Crawlers always gave me the creeps.)

The high school I went to had a three year aero class. We got an Aeronca that was just the frame and a Continental A65 four banger engine in a box. We covered the frame and wings with cloth, rebuilt the engine and got it certified as air worthy. Pretty good for a bunch of high school punks.

We sold it to a flight school so we could buy fuel for our other engines including a J-35 we'd fire up on the football field. Four months after it was sold a student pilot flipped it on take-off and destroyed the plane. He and the instructor walked away. If we could have found the pilot we would have killed him.

Tail draggers rule!!
