Technically CMs aren't supposed to use GAC cards but I figure I get so little time off from work that the least they could do is make my day off easier. I don't think of myself as a "faker" but with a non-apparent disability it is a lot harder to convince people of the need for the GAC card.
I have never heard of any restriction about a CM getting a GAC. On days when you come in through the gate using your ID as a pass (or with people using your maingate) you are a Guest, although there are certain things you must keep in your mind, such as being a SG is not allowed.

When I go into the parks as a Guest I am on my ECV, which I do not need/use when working. I expect to be treated as any other Guest with a disability.

I would suggest going to Guest Relations the next time you are in the park as a Guest and get yourself a GAC, explaining your needs. When they ask how long you are staying, tell them you are a CM and would like to have it for three months so you don't have to keep coming back. I know that people who are Floridians with APs who will get a GAC which is good for several months. As far as number of people in your party, I would suggest you give them a number like three or four so if you are with someone they are not restricted.

On a side note, tomorrow I am planning to go to MK and will stop in at City Hall and find out the actual rules.

Yeah, this summer I did the three month GAC card. I also do pretty well with my disabilty when working but when I am not getting paid I don't need to "tough it out". I always get nervous going to GR to get a card, with some fear that they will tell my manager and I will get termed. But then again that is just my imagination getting carried away. (No figment cracks please... ;) )
The times I did tell them I was a CM it seemed like they could care less so that made me feel better.

I have never heard the no GAC rule for CMs. When I worked attractions I had my achilles tendon damaged by an ECV. I could not be on it for longer than 10 minutes at a time (and yet they did not give me crutches, go figure) so when I was at DAK I got a standard wheelchair entrance GAC. I had used my ID to get the wheelchair and they were the ones who reminded me to get a GAC. I'll tell you, travelling DAK in a WC by yourself is really quite difficult. The hills were murder!

CM guy I love the imagination institute pic and the quote in your sig!!!

I have a little squishy imagination lightbulb that I keep next to the computer. . .the stem got cracked somehow *glares at cat* but it's still hanging on when I go back to WDW in April I'm going to buy a bunch of them I just love that logo and find it so. . .inspiring! :)

(I like to hold the little squishy bulb above my head when I have an idea. My family has not asked me to stop yet so I guess the joke is still funny at this point LOL)

LOL, I'm glad you liked the quote. I did it to remind me of all the casting propoganda that's all around the world. One of my favorites is "Walt Disney World, where heroes come in all shapes and sizes" and it's a custodial CM grabbing a wayward balloon with a picker.
As for the Imagination institute, personally it is one of my favorite "themes" even though a lot of die-hards despise it. I love the lightbulb and I took that pic in the queue for Imagination. Since I might be working there this summer I figure it would be interesting to decorate my sig a little differently.

Actually, that's a good idea to get a GAC for my mom and brother when they are here. My brother has a problem that he can't stand in lines very long... he has a growth in his foot that keeps coming back... it was caused by that shot they give (or take from) you when you are born. So for him, it would be a REALLY good idea to get one. Hadn't thought about it before.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Well my original tactic to get one without question was to go in like a guest and say you lost your "Assistance Card" with the arrows on it. If you sound too informed they might figure out you aren't a SG. But now that I know it is OK maybe I won't have to do that anymore...
