The other thing I would add to what Cranbiz said, a lot of our language usage comes from using the radio. If you know that a thousand or more people are going to hear what you say (including emergency services and managers), you are going to give it some thought before you say anything. When you speak in code, the managers know what you are talking about, you take up less air time, and people are more likely to think it sounds more professional. In all situations, if you are in front of a guest, it's much better to say you're taking a quick 10-7 than to tell your fellow cast members (again, with guests in earshot) that you are going backstage for a cigarette or to drain the lizard. With my slender, 270 lb physique, it's much better to say I'm going on 10-81 than that I am going to lunch.

Sometimes, we might speak in code specifically so that guests don't know what we're talking about... especially if we are calling an ambulance or something else out of the ordinary that might cause a panic. I guarantee that at Kali River Rapids the other day, there was a lot of codespeak going on. But we also use it on a daily basis because it says what we are trying to say efficiently. For a while, we are all looking at cards that were given to us in training, until we have most of the codes memorized. It is second nature to us, and we do it without thinking.

I also come from the slightly callous position of having been through some flight training, to the point where I am very comfortable on the radio. I can pick up any pilot magazine and read it cover to cover and understand everything; if you've never flown in a small aircraft and studied the language, it's all Greek.

With that, I thank you for your understanding of where we come from. Soon, you won't need the cheat sheet, and you'll be coding with the rest of us 1337 CMs :p: .

Now a very important question: Has anyone properly welcomed you to SGT? If not, welcome to our little hole in the wall of the Internet. Please remain seated at all times. If you are standing, we suggest you hold on to, but refrain from swinging on the handrails. And now, we invite you to sit back and let us do the driving You'll be home soon! (Music fades back in)

Mind you that this is done to the music of "It's a Small World"

If I have to listen to that too many more times there will be a MiM's box with a large foot thru it.

I see management is wreaking revenge on the CM's. That or Cranbiz is being punished. I hate the canned music, too. It is illegal to wear ear plugs or or an ear piece for a radio so you are doomed. At parks you could put in hearing aids that are actually ear plugs but not on busses, poor Cranbiz.

[quote="Big Wallaby"]...I can pick up any pilot magazine and read it cover to cover and understand everything]I never got as far as lessons, but I'm a pilot wannabe from way back. I've subscribed to Flying for over 20 years, and it's still the only magazine I regularly read cover to cover. I still may get my private pilot certificate someday. You know, when I'm independently wealthy. (Whenever that will be!)

At least with a bus -- unlike an airplane -- you can kick off unruly passengers. Okay, you can in an airplane, too, but there are more serious consequences.
:)

I am working on a better list and right now I have spent about 90 minutes slogging and looking. It is taking a while and I have not coded it yet.

It is rather long but will help in the long run. thanks everyone for helping me back when I thought 101 was a California highway and when a ride went 101 that meant it was time to take off on the 101.

Bonus points if you see Cranbiz or me while you're here, and extra credit if you post the photos somewhere.

Have fun on your trip here!

Honestly, not sure I'd know who you guys are. :)

Anything particularly distinctive? (Other than knowing how to do your job)
