I don't know if I specified this before...

My biggest problem with this is that they are forcing us to take 15/30/15 minute breaks. Everyone in vending loves the 30/30. I have not found one person in the department that likes the new break system.

15 minutes is a joke. On my first break I want lunch. I don't want a measley little 15 minute break. That's bullshit.

I think a bunch of us will be ignoring the new break system completely if we can get away with it. We all hate it. I don't think we're going to let a bunch of suits tell us when we can go on break. Fuck em.

I'm gonna stick with my 30/30.

I want everyone to pay attention to this line.
Unless the employee is relieved of all duty during the entire thirty-minute meal period and is free to leave the employer's premises, the meal period shall be considered "on duty," counted as hours worked, and paid for at the employee's regular rate of pay.
So are you allowed to leave and visit denny's in costume? Do you even have time to hit Mcd's? Food... for thought.

Well this is how it is for Attractions (I can't speak for other departments) and we would love to be able to do a 30 minute break, but we can't...If there are lots of other departments who get this different system, then I'm glad they're implementing this, everyone should get the same treatment...All attractions CMs have to wait until their second break for a lunch, why shouldn't everyone?

I always thought not clocking in and out for lunches was a nice perk (every other job I had I had to clock in and out). No big deal with attractions we do it with CDS (kinda).

The thing that is gonna be tough is the your lunch must fall in the middle of your shift. Say you have an 8 hour shift (scheduled 8.5 half hour for lunch). Your lunch HAS to come between the 3rd and 5th hour of your shift. No big deal in most places. Where this is really going to be difficult is on guest control shifts and for our entertainment performs in parades and Fantasmic. Where we were given lunches first because of all the dead time we had. Other attractions this is going to be tough on are Rivercraft, probably Jungle and Book as well as transportation type attractions (Steam Trains and Monorail). Let's just hope they can make things work or find ways to use our previous way of doing things with a new system.

I'm anxious to see what happens with this new system at guest control and locations that still aren't on CDS (book, jungle, etc). Book is the one I'm most worried about, though... At book, your breaks come when you can fit them in... not when the computer tells you to take them... Because, really, sometimes you're out at parade or stuck on a boat for everyone and their mom's lunch... This will be interesting!

Hmmm...that's a relatively new one on me. I'll have to check with some of my entertainment buddies to see if that affects them too. In characters, your lunch is scheduled within the shift. So you only needed to punch in at the begining of the day, and punch out at the end.
...at least that's how I remember it for my show schedules.

I'm not sure if the break has to be exactly in the middle; I think it just means you can't use your break to come in half an hour late or go home half an hour early. As I'm sure you all have experienced at one point or another, shifts can and do get extended from time to time. If you're called in early and/or you're asked to stay late, there's no way to know where the exact halfway point in your shift is going to be.

Ignore me if you're referring to Disney-specific rules and not just California labor laws. :o:

No kidding. I remember days when it seemed we were frozen in the Book rotation for three hours straight. Spiel hell. That's why I always took my own lunch working Fantasyland. There was no telling when you'd finally get off the boats or dock, and no point in fighting the crowds trying to get to Village Haus or the Inn Between for a much needed respite.

I understand the need for having to document everything, but it's a shame that a few problem children (on both sides of the equation) forced this change. No such thing as an honor system anymore...

If I understood the DCA Ops guy and DL Westside Ops correctly. They have to give you your lunch in that time range (between the 3rd and 5th hour for a 8 hour shift). And if they don't get you a lunch by the 5th hour (again using the 8 hour shift example) they have to pay you an extra hour of straight time and still try to get you a lunch. I don't know if this is Disney policy or part of the California labor laws.
