We love the Flag ceremony! We try to go everyday when we are there. It is so moving.Main Streeter wrote:Christmas Tree was not up today. For those CMs who missed the very fine, dignified, tearful Veteran's Day Flag Retreat Ceremony Tuesday - you all missed a great part of D L history. Flag Retreat was like none other!! The Color Guard was spectacular! The 4, yes 4 D L Security Officers gave pride & honor to D L as they stepped out & made not one mistake during the entire ceremony attended by over 400. Leave it to Security Officer Ernie to prepare events & present perfection! I was so proud of all in D L Security because they honored the Veterans with their hearts & souls. As a side note.... Ernie was told of a Veteran at the ceremony who had been a D L Security Officer years ago. He was so thrilled to meet the gentleman - then he was told this Veteran had been awarded The Purple Heart by Eisenhower. Nothing could have been better!! Pics were taken until they had to be escorted, due to parade, backstage where there was a small party for all Veterans & their families. Can't wait for my CD of the entire ceremony.
Not really. 4 years ago we had a big fire on Mt. Lemmon. The salesman that I worked with went to the county meeting to hear about the 'new' codes.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:True, you can get some deals on empty lots!
but if you build, they have some improved building codes for fire prevention!
Everywhere in SoCal is HOT,I think, unless you're on the coast....That's why they invented air conditioning!hobie16 wrote:If you like heat, Thousand Oaks is for you. If you really like heat, go a little further east to Simi (Steamy) Valley.

Hmmm. Well now if you build, in some areas, you have to have enclosed eaves, metal or cement tile roof, fire resistant siding, house sprinkler system Inside/outside, water storage tank, and so on, not to mention 100 to 200 foot defenseable space.darph nader wrote:Not really. 4 years ago we had a big fire on Mt. "You can build your cabins taller and closer together. As long as you use metal roofing."
They wanted everybody in town to feel sorry for the people who lost their weekend cabins. Mostly what they got was "You live in a FUCKING FOREST,forests catch fire"
Look a butterfly.
Ya gotta review home insurance policies every year. I hadn't for a while and discovered this year the insurance would cover maybe 40% of the replacement value.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:One of the interesting things is that the house was about 18 years old, and that to replace it, (to current standards) it would cost almost twice as much.
Know what you mean, we switched to "replacement cost and 125% of furnishings!)hobie16 wrote:Ya gotta review home insurance policies every year. I hadn't for a while and discovered this year the insurance would cover maybe 40% of the replacement value.
It took about an hour on the phone answering a lot of questions but in the end the insurance company upped the coverage. Down side was the premium jumped about $1000.
