No fireworks this year. It was raining off and on in NYC plus my wonderful boyfriend was studying all last night. Right now he's taking a network certification exam (don't ask me which. It's someting to do with data cubes) and if he passes, he's off to Houston to interview for a job. My 4th of July wish is that he passes so I can go back to school.

Same here. I live in GA. were only sparkler type things are legal (and that's only the last few years) but everything including M80's etc are legal in SC. Just a drive across the river..
I did scare the crap out of the neighbors last year. They had the M80's etc. going all night. I got my muzzle-loader and did a double load of powder (with just wadding, no bullet if anyone is worried). BOOOOM.. all I heard from the other side of the fence was "G** D***" and then they settled down for the night..

Princess Susi is getting out of the hospital today and feeling better :)
I think she will make a faster recovery with Ralphie, kitties and Wall-E toys to
help with Recovery. She said she couldn't wait to get back on SGT. too! :D:

Everyone goes over there to buy illegal fireworks to shoot off in their back yards here in Florida. I live in a subdivision of small acreages and several people (including us) have horses. As you can imagine, the screaming, screeching ILLEGAL rockets and firecrackers scare the horses as well as the neighborhood dogs and cats. I've been going out every few minutes to reassure the horse that those are not equine-eating monsters exploding in the sky, and had to bring the dogs into the house where they are panting nervously.
They really need to enforce the laws here and fine people who use illegal fireworks, but the police don't do anything unless someone specifically complains (which I have done). Then they drive by and warn the guilty parties that fireworks are illegal in this county. As soon as the police leave, the fireworks start up again. Luckily we've had a lot of rain lately so the fire danger is low.
I love fireworks in a controlled setting, such as at municipal fireworks shows and especially at WDW. :) I just wish people would use common sense and respect for the law and not set them off in a residential area.
Okay, rant over.
Amen to that sister! The poor cat was freaked out last night- in addition to the basement flood we had three days ago (horrible, long story) that had his world and ours turned upside down the past few days, the noise was scaring him half to death. I thought some were going to set the building on fire- not what you want when you've spent the past two days mopping up storm water! (thankfully not sewage though!)
Thank you so much for the update on Susie, Disneymom I've had her on my mind as I've been trying to help my poor husband dig out from the mess here. I'm pretty useless as far as helping though I just can't do it :( I felt pretty horrible about it and am so glad we're at the end of it now.
If you talk to Sus tell her that Bru is sending pixie dust thoughts her way for a super-quick recovery and miraculous success of the procedure!!!
hugs

Please deliver me form Podunkville and in-bred ppl...please.
In the drive thru at Mickey D's, just finished placing my order and getting the total when KA-CHUNK! Whole car lurches. First thot...oh god what is wrong with the car now, what blew up? NO>>>>>not that simple (good I suppose) Ding dong behind me has decided to rear end me. Nothing major just a bump but I finish getting the total and tell the boy on the box that someone just hit my back end and I will be around in a moment.
So I pull up just enuf to get out and see (since she is STILL sitting smack up against my bumper..I watched her, she never backed up at all) And as I go look she has the brainlessness to tell me wait a minute till she places her order.

Good LORD! You just hit someone and you are more worried about getting a Big Mac?????????????????????????????????????

I told her that the guy could wait a minute.
No damage done and they are waiting for me at the window and laughing...they could hear the conversation. HELP ME! SAVE ME! PLEASE!

Oh god. I feel for you. I just started driving and I'm petrified of being a.) the dumbass to rearend someone in a Drive-thru or b.) the victim of someone who should be looking where they're going!

The drive-through window at Jack-in-th-Box faces a wall which has behind it a 6-foot or higher block wall. The first wall is part of car port to protect that area from sun and rain. Someone drove their car up to the window and the car caught fire. Almost saved the community from ptomaine Jack burgers.
Someone once set fire to some mailboxes at the post office.
