Okay, my moment to get on my soapbox. This is way OT! Trust me.

:clears throat:

So today Jack and I went to the Ren Faire at the Santa Fe Dam. Whoa. This is in BFE if ever a place truly existed, this was it. First off we had to take 3 freeways to get there. On the way, we saw the marks of civilization get smaller and smaller. No Walmart, McDonalds, etc. Just giant billboards for Paradise Girls gentleman's club. Oh yeah.

We finally arrive and at the front gate it's 8 dollars for the Dam parking. Or we could have an additional 10 dollars for "valet parking." Sheesh. For that nonsense, I coulda gone to Disneyland!

Then thanks to Jack's mom, we get comp tickets. Thank the Gods since it is 25 dollars to get in! Like I said, Disneyland was sounding better and better. We get our tickets and we go to the main gate.

Which looks like, are you ready? A pirate ship. :SIGH: I have NO problem with pirates whatsoever, but c'mon. I find out that apparently the shire is now a port city, hence ALL the pirates. Please, it's all because of Captain Jack. Don't lie.

So we start walking about and Holy Hannah, the strangest conglomeration of costumed folks is meandering through the Faire. Of course Princesses, Peasants, Wenches but also Pirates (in various stages of attire, starting from store bought cheapie costumes to full blown save up for a year to buy this jacket), Scotsmen, Vikings, Goth kids, Halloween getups, and WOW characters.

Yes, that's right. This year, to draw a bigger crowd, they are letting in World Of Warcraft players dressed as their favorites. Hmm. So I saw a demon, an elf, many fairies ( which that one is expected since they do sell wings there) a faun, and others that I couldn't really decipher what they were.

Oh and Jesus was there as well, wearing his crown of thorns and drinking mead. Yeah...

I did have a good time, but wow what happened? It seems like most of the things I held to me as my fantasy places have just fallen apart. Disneyland, while still magical, is way different. Knott's when I go to Haunt is a hit and miss. Now Ren Faire with its mishmosh of folk.

It's sad, you know?

Ah, I feel better after saying all that. I now return you to your regular SG postings.

Disneyland trams are seperate from cars. Thus said lets see. Guests walking in front of a tram. Driver looses control and veers into something. Trees and other debris fall in front of a tram. I rmember the monorail plowing through overhanging bushes. It could have been a guest on a bicycle.

Then there are E-stops and idiot avooidance tacktics, lol.

Not Sure, but Evil Board X says a sign was taken out.....

LDC, glad you got comp tickets for Ren Fair, it is a fun place especially to people watch, but no certain theme apparently.

I had a good time there a few years back, didn't even mind when a Faerie stole some of my fries  apparently they don't have to worry about their cholesterol.

Wow, well I guess there is a plethera of ways a tram can have an accident. Murphy's Law, I suppose.

The little comic book supervillian that lives inside me makes me connect "accident" with "landmine".

SG sightings today:
Young punk wearing a black hoodie with a large, contrasting hand with middle finger extended design on back. Walt would have had him shot. He got in, not sure if he made it very far inside (I thought about reporting him to CM, but design on his back was at least 2 feet tall so thought CM's would handle it). I noticed him as SG was giving turnstile CM hell wanting to use both days of her $65.00 2-fer on the same day. No, she didn't get in.
Two teenagers who plowed in front of me in LOOOOONG Pin Trading line at Westward Ho Shop Frontierland. Now, the line did obstruct some of the walking area, but why move around a line when you can smash thru it?
Last Week, SG Pin Traders who waited 5 hours at the same place for CM's to come out with Pin Trading Books and insisted that my favorite Nice Pin Trader couldn't trade there "Because this is the line to wait for CM's" and told her to trade at another table. WTF? Nice Pin Trader got Pin Store CM to calm things down, and stayed.

Lady Ulrike, Sorry :( , hubby on a mission today and no time to go to FL, planning trip in 2 weeks, slower paced with In-Laws visiting.

Also, young girl at Mickey and Friends Tram Drop asking for used tickets, to upgrade to AP's?

Actually, I don't think they've ever limited what people can dress up as at RenFaire. I know I've seen some pretty unperiod things in there. They only limit that employees as far as I know.

This makes more sense to me than it should. When an Alumni came back to my college last year and ended his life, allot of what they told everyone after, was that suicides often happen in a place where the victim felt safe and accepted in life, and his parents said he was happiest when he was at RPI and they figure that's why he went back there to do it.

I imagine there are many people for whom Disney is a place that makes them feel safe, happy and accepted, even if they're miserable back out in the 'real world'.

Oh sorry, I didn't clarify. People that dressed as WOW characters apparently got in for half price or free on certain days.

I didn't have an issue with what they were wearing (some of them put a lot of effort into it) but I think that's just a little unfair.

But why should I care, really? It's not like I had to pay $25. But hey, it just means that next year I can buy some Legolas ears and a sword and call it a day.
