I personally don't run anti-virus (on a mac), but Avast is good. The free stuff actually isn't bad. I ran AVG on my windows boxes. There is clamwin, bitdefender. If you follow spoofee.com, every once in a while you will see Kaspersky for free (after coupons or whatever) if you think you'll be more comfortable with a "paid" version of software.

Then again I don't know much about the Internet, specifically security...

I ADORE Avast! :) HUGE improvement over Norton Antivirus. That was really a system hog and resource eater. I'm glad I made the conversion to Avast.

I've reported it to Zazu, but have yet to have him reply on my most recent, and more detailed, report of this nefarious site that pops up whenever I try to go here. I believe a recently departed troll is responsible...
I've suddenly been getting that, too. Although the only time I get that is when I'm looking up SGT on my school computer. (I already have the site favorited on my own computer.)

Well, I know you don't run anti- virus on a mac. I never did either, As for the rest of your conversation - you lost me at clamwin. :o: :o: :D:

Sophos might not be a bad idea for your Mac. And, keep up to date with software updates from Apple.

Sophos & clamwin??? :o: hobie, you & ktulu are conspiring against me. I just know it!!! #1. I don't have a Mac any longer. #2. Neither of you can teach me anything about the above. Must plead hopeless & helpless. Although, my computer skills aren't as irremediable as a "certain" friend of mine. :) ktulu, those cliff notes just might help him. :D: Send them! You have the address.

My netbook runs Windows 7 Starter. I'm big on checking things through Comsumer Reports whenever possible, and in checking the VIPRE site, Avast isn't that great. Kaspersky is second best, and Trend Micro is abysmal. I had a free 30 day VIPRE test drive on my old desktop, and it was superb. Should be darn good on my much newer netbook. VIPRE recommends broadband for downloading from their site, and I use wifi with my netbook. Despite the VIPRE has gotten, nobody will advertise it because it beats others. Check the site.

Oh, and as I was coming here today, got directed to Google again, but remembered to add the http and got through without a hitch.

Well, being free, I kind of figured Avast! wouldn't catch everything so I also have Malwarebytes to supplement it.
