Although he swears he's found something online which can convert your film camera into digital, I'm not sure I'd trust that.

I remember Canon had a digital back (Nikon too) back when a digital slr was still the price of a small car. You could convert your film camera body over, for only a few grand! I havent seen one advertised since around 1999-2000 but they did exist.

I've always loved the way blues come out on Canon, and reds on Nikon sensors.

But my all-time favorite camera, and I've only ever seen one, was a FujiFilm that had been made with a Nikon body (I believe it was a D300) and a Fuji sensor. Back when I shot film, I so loved Fuji. I wouldn't use Kodak because it was such a craps shoot, depending on which location had made it. But Fuji was wonderfully consistent.

The first good camera I was ever given was my Dad's old Fuji about 1992. It was an expensive model just below the "professional grade" model. It was nice because you had the option to add lenses for it or use the auto-focus lens it came with. It weight as much as a small dog but to this day when I spend on film, it still shoots perfectly beautiful pictures. On par or better then my husbands highly expensive (in the day) Cannon Elean 2.

Maybe one of these days we'll upgrade to a Digital SLR, maybe if I tighten the purse strings (who needs food? I could use a diet!) we can manage one before our Orlando trip in 2012. :D:

The last film camera I owned was a Minolta X-700 with a bunch of lenses. All told everything cost about $2500. Great camera. I always shot slides and sold a bunch of stuff. I looked on eBay a while ago for current prices and the whole setup would bring maybe $50.

I tried to donate it all to the local HS but they're not interested in film. Instant digital gratification I guess.

You know, the thing about film versus digital... To get the same quality as an old 35mm camera, you need about a 35-45 megapixel sensor. And those are still a little out of my price range. By a little, I mean kind of a lot.

I suspect it's more about the fact that film costs, downloading doesn't. My kids would not have had the opportunity to take nearly so many pictures if we hadn't had digital cameras. ;)

I haven't looked in a while but last time we bought film offline it ran about $3-4 per 800 speed decent grade film (I believe it was Kodak last time). Which really isn't that much more then previous times, I can't vouch if it's still that cheap however since it's considered an "Artist Medium" now. Besides now you can drop film off and just pick up a CD of your photos with the negatives (that's what I did last time I shot film myself). Now I'm gonna have to go price film again and see!
