Come on really? Do they really do that? It seems like a good way to loose money fast. For one, I bet it was their soda. Two, I bet that GR said no, but she complained long enough for them to do it. I sound bitter, but I am tired of people that expect the park to fix everything. I thought Disney wasn't responsible for people's stuff. In this case, it sounds like they are taking responsibility when they don't need too.
My sister had her hat pinched from right next to her in a stroller, about a minute after we bought it. A CM replaced it free-of-charge, made her very happy indeed.

That's why. Spreadin' the magic....

I did have an instance where we refunded tickets at MK. A woman came to the booth, obviously distraught and asked if we could refund her purchase. They had just arrived at the resort, bought tickets for the 4 or 5 days, got into MK for about 2 hours and got a call that her mother had died suddenly. Her husband was on his phone arranging for air travel-we could hear the conversation-and she was still very upset. Management did a refund right away without question.

The other thing I have heard done in that kind of situation was making the tickets non-expiring so the guest can return another time when the crisis is over.

Unfortunately, it can be several years in some cases before they could get back. In fact, we see some British families where, they've been planning the trip for nearly a decade, Mom gets pregnant and delivers just days/weeks before the trip. While I do not normally condone bringing someone that young on that long a trip and into the parks (unless you're going to train the child to sleep in any noise conditions, and you are properly taking care of them and not using them as a FastPass.

But then, there is a certain etiquette that should be followed... see above. Yes, your child is too small to ride. Yes, you are going to need to use the child swap. Yes, you should find some shade for your infant while you wait for your family to go through the line.

I am also curious if anyone else has done what I mentioned before about training kids to sleep anywhere. I have a teacher from High School who I ran into a few years later, and he had a newborn son. We were at a sports event, and the kid was sleeping right through it. He even explained that he wanted to have his son able to sleep, that people didn't have to tiptoe around his kid. Anyone have thoughts on this? Just out of curiosity.

Yes, this is done. I've done many on different in park merch. Called an N S A = No Strings Attached.

On our first trip to DL with the oldest child (I don't recall her age, but it was 1-2, maybe younger) and she slept through the fireworks launching and exploding while we strolled through the park. I want to say we were in Fantasyland, but it has been and while and I did have a drink or dozen since then...

It's what I did. Didn't necessarily take her loud places when she needed to sleep, but we weren't quiet, we just went about doing things at a normal volume. I didn't want to have to be forced to be super quiet whenever she was asleep, that's a huge inconvenience. And she has slept through pyro, plenty of times.

No Strings are wonderful tools, I've issued and redeemed a bunch for different things. The guest leaves happy (or at least happier) and it only cost the company a little bit, if anything at all.

That explains why she fell asleep so easily that time I watched her while everyone else rode Mission: Space.

Like lady ulrike, we weren't so much about "sleep anywhere" as about "sleep through normal household noises." Most of my kids weren't major nappers (they did sleep a long time at night, though), but I didn't sweat being quiet for the ones that were. I had a friend whose kids would crash out where ever they were at bed time -- snoozing out under a table or whatnot -- while mom and dad visited. They'd be deep enough out their parents just carried them out to the car, then carried them to bed when they got home. Not even the hassle of getting strapped into their carseats woke them.

Supposedly babies come into the world used to sleeping all day (since that's when mom would be moving around during the day, "rocking them" if you will), awake all night, so they don't associate quiet with sleep necessarily.

Yep, she has no issue falling asleep pretty much anywhere once she's tired enough. She will fight a nap when there's enough going on, but eventually she'll conk out and stay out.

Add my wife and me to the list of those who did not "quieten down" things for the kids when they were little. We'd been around enough nervous new parents who kept things near silence and panicked at every little noise to know that wasn't for us. Still, I am sympathetic to those who do that because their child has sleep issues; if their resting is a rare occurrence, I can fully understand them not wanting to mess it up!
