The house I bought in 2005 is a little over 1000 square feet, and cost about $145000! Granted that was at the peak of the housing "bubble". I remember reading that in places like Huntsville Al, that you could get a 2000 or even a 2500 square foot home for that price! I don't even live in a swanky neighborhood.
Yea, but then you'd have to live in Alabama. (rim shot) Just kidding Alabamians. Never been there, but I'm sure it's a nice place.
Seriously, If you think $145000. is a lot to pay for a house...you surely don't get out much. (and don't call me surely) Even in today's market, from what I have seen, that is a pretty low price for 1000 sq. ft. Now back in the mid 70's you could purchase that for $25K. That's what I paid for my first house.

My favorite comment about the price of housing came from my Tennessee Realtor when I told her I was selling a small beach house in California and that I'd only clear about half the sale price after paying off the mortgage:
"I think we could put you in City Hall for that price!"
But in fact, it took Disney to do that.

Actually, I quite like California. Not saying it is without faults, but I wouldn't say it is the bottom of the heap ether.

California has quite a few faults.
San Andreas, Sierra Madre, Cucamonga, San Gabriel... :p:
Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.
We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious…
and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
