I think it’s a great story and a wonderful ending and all, but I find it a little scary that he fingered a guy on the dock with little evidence. He even said that it was 2-3 minutes since he used the app in his room and the time he got to the dock. He even said that he thought maybe the culprit had already left on another ferry. Yet, he wants to force this guy to allow them search his belongings. Heck, at one point he wanted to punch the guy first and ask questions later. What’s wrong with this picture? Guilty until proven innocent? Scary…

You are absolutely correct.....BUT I think this guy was a model of restraint, or the thief would have bolted.

Ditto to all of BW's stuff plus, if you read on in the story, what tipped the scales for security to show extra interest was that second GPS location of the iPhone, which showed it clearly on the boat after it left the dock. That meant the perp could not have left on an earlier boat. It's still not enough for an arrest, but it is enough for some extra attention. That the guy was heading towards the entrance to a park, where all bags are subject to inspection, was basically the idiot handing them all the reason they needed to search.

Not if they don't want them to be searched. But if you decline the search, expect a nice escort out. That's what makes this thief clueless, Disney security can't require a search of anyone for any reason, and real police would have to have probable cause.

Be careful when you talk about policies and legalities please. This is just like any guest story; there are layers that you may not be aware of to the situation.

For example, reread both 'articles' on the incident. There are so many discepancies between them that they can actually be construed as two separate incidents.

I hope that other 'guests' that read the blogs do not get the idea to take matters into their own hands. There are many missing layers to this scenario as described. No, I will not comment on what they are publically or privately.

What I hope cast and guests alike will take from the incident is that if you work with the appropriate Cast we can usually solve you situation and that Disney has a procedure for every inevitable scenario on our property.

Always let Cast perform their job and work to ensure you have the happiest and best vacation of your life.

We've got enough that there's Volcano National Park.

If you look at the weather radar, you'll see a big blob off the southeast coast of the Big Island. That's not rain, it's gas being exhaled from the Kilauea volcano. When we get Kona (South) winds the sky turns yellow.
