Then you would just be perpetuating this rumor, wouldn't you? lol

Yeah, mainly because I'd have no idea what the guest in front of me is doing, and I'd start laughing at them...its usually what I do. If you act goofy in front of me, expect to be laughed at.

OMG, where do they get this CRAP??? :bugeyes:
Some of these SGs need to get a freaking LIFE....
The whole pull a string up over your head only reminds me of some psychotic grade school teacher reminding you to sit up straight. Yeah and they look like idiots doing it back then.
Again, please stop cross posting from other boards...If I want to read the newest Disney fan-dumb diatribe or urban legend, I can go there.

I must say that doing that smile thing is just a bit rude. thats about as rude as correcting someones grammer when talking with them.
thats why I could never be a cm, if they did that finger thing, I am certain I would respond with a bit of a different finger gesture. and thus self-terminate! ;)
<holding head in hands>
I'm not gonna do it! I'm not gonna do it! Slap slap.

Well, I like to think that some of us aren't. ;) But yes, I was surprised that not a single person (at least not the last time I looked) insisted CMs must be smiling all the time and thought this was a good idea.

God that would drive me batty. I guess we aren't supposed to be human. One of my crew members the other day got a call that her grandma was in the hospital and not doing well. She came in the next day, I think she just wanted to stay in her routine as she seemed somewhat shell shocked. She was not the most cheerful person that day. Not that she was mean, but she was not smiling very much. I would have been upset if a guest told her to smile. Yeah, we're supposed to smile. But sometimes life happens.

How would guests feel if we got in their faces and demanded that they smile and look happy because they are at Disney??
Honestly, some people's faces look unhappy even when they are simply in a "neutral" position. The person isn't grumpy, that's just their face. Walking up to ANYONE and demanding that they smile on command is only going to make that person annoyed with you.

I had that happen to me a couple times. Neither time was I being grumpy, I was just busy and wasn't smiling. The SG in both cases were just walking by, and actually stopped just to come up to me, and get right in my face. I didn't get the weird gesture in the OP, but they sort of pushed up the sides of their mouths, and said, "You need to smile!" or "You're supposed to be smiling."
In both cases it pissed me off because of the guests' attitude about it. They were both very condescending and demanding, acting like they were giving me an order. Not cool.
If a guest truly wants to try to cheer up a CM, stick with a friendly greeting or a simple "thank you".

How about slipping you a twenty? That would make me smile.
