Well, there are a few main reason that folks at fast-food places dislike when someone orders something from a different restaurant.

First of all, some folks do it deliberately, and don't realize that they are not original or the height of wit when they do it, then get mad when they don't get a laugh.

Second, some folks honestly think that they should be able order their favorite item anywhere.

Third, it makes them have to stop and let the customer know that they don't serve that product, and even if they suggest a similar product, the customer can get upset, demand that they have always gotten that item there, etc.

In general, it can be a sign that the order is going to get ugly at that point.

I don't know how many times people tried to order a cheeseburger from me when I worked at Arby's. The menu is right above me, take 2 seconds and look at it and you'd know we didn't have cheeseburgers.

Then there was the guy looking for ice cream...

especially when you consider that most people specifically go to Arbys to get away from the burger routine!

love that roast beef!

That reminds me of something my GM told me while I was working there. These two guys came in, and ordered 8 large cheese sticks and a bunch of other stuff and proceeded to eat all of it in one sitting. Now, I love the cheese sticks as much as the next guy, but that is ridiculous.

Bad Wombat, no no. You know I meant 8 large orders of cheesesticks, so 64 sticks, meaning 32 sticks each, along with a lot of the other worst things on the Arby's menu. :ewww:

Ah fast food ordering. gotta love it. 5 years at McD's, the stories i could tell.....

Best one was an old lady who came through and ordered a Mighty Kids Meal (remember those?). She came back through maybe 3 minutes later (drive thru of course) and asked if we sold Big Macs.

Or the guy I told we only do 2 separate orders max in Drive-Thru since it would hold up the line. In a fit, he order 2 $1-$3 orders, picked them up, drove around, ordered again, picked the next two up, drove around and ordered one last time. To think the money he wasted in gas and the time he wasted to wait in a lunchtime line to get 5 separate orders when it would've been easier to park and everyone order INSIDE is stupidly outstanding.

Or the guy where I had to explain that the old chicken McGrill wasn't breaded but....grilled.

Or the lady who got mad when breakfast was canceled a half hour after it should have been. Then again, Charlotte was hit with a major ice storm the night before. Our McD's was, interestingly, on the same power grid as the hospital across the street so we were the ONLY restauraunt with power in a good 10 mile radius. We had one line out the door and one wrapped around the building and into the street with cars. And did I mention we were suppose to have stopped a half hour before? or that we were only serving the quickest items we could cook? she left in a tizzy and the next guy responded with "yeah I heard what you told her and I don't care. Give me a big mac...etc" ah stupid people :D:

I used to work at a Mexican fast food place and people would get so annoyed when they'd order an item from a different Mexican fast food place and I couldn't guess what they wanted. Because of course they couldn't ask for a "taco" or a "burrito," they'd have to ask for a "tostadillo" or "speedy gonzales" and I had no idea what they really wanted because we didn't have that particular fast food place in our town. Seriously, lady, I really do have no idea what a speedy gonzales is. How about you look at the menu and pick something that looks close to YOU?
