Actually the FP system is a total failure for several reasons.
One is that it was thought that people would go to stores and/or eateries while waiting for their time. But there was no jump in gross income.
Another is that the Parks were designed with an expectation that a certain percentage of the Guests would be in the queues for attractions at all times, and the more crowded he Park the more people in queues. Because of FPs this does have more people wandering around and not in queues which makes the Park appear more crowded.

LOVE FP for Space Mountain.Never get FP for anything else except WOC,where you can get the FP free by waiting in a long line or by purchasing overpriced food.
Then you wait in more lines :D:

Is it fair that only people in the morning can get Fastpasses? Of course not. It excludes people. But guess what--life isn't fair. It's reality. And reality--no matter how hard we try--will ALWAYS find its way into the parks. That's life.

Yes, everyone in the park can't get a FP to everything, but life is usually about tradeoffs. You can elect to get to the park early. You can elect to get an FP for Space Mountain or for Stitch's Great Escape.

Now, bear in mind, this is just the opinion of someone who has little knowledge of the inner workings of the Disney parks, but I don't think the FPs are a bad idea or akin to "cutting". After all, is it "cutting" if someone makes a reservation at a restaurant, then is seated before someone who just came in, even if they have been waiting for a while? I, for one, would enjoy being able to spending time shopping or going on some of the less-crowded rides instead of having to plan my trip around how long I will be having to stand in line for a favorite attraction.
Now, if I understand the current FP system, it allows anyone to get one pass for just one ride at a time, but allows for them to make a "reservation", as it were, for any time, thus all the FP seats on a ride could be sold out in the early morning, leaving none for the rest of the day. Perhaps it would be better to set it up so that on can only get an FP for ride some many hours in advance (say, a two hour window), and no FPs would be issued before that window of opportunity.

OK, you got me. It will not be exponentially. What I wanted to say was that the wait will be equal to the amount of FP's issued through the course of the day. Have you ever been on a freeway when construction was going on and they have closed one lane so all traffic is merging into one lane. Frustrating isn't it? Well, to me, FP is my one lane construction experience. Just when you think you are going to go...they stop the line to let others in front. In it's own way, FP is just as frustrating as the traffic scenario.

Ah, but the issue with the down to one lane problem is as a whole, people drive like selfish idiots (how surprising). If one person drives at a constant speed allowing the space in front of them to vary, it can smooth out all of the traffic behind them. I find that most of the problem with one lane construction zones is caused by people waiting until the last minute to merge. And the traffic analogy only goes so far. You get to choose whether you get a fastpass or not - and part of that my include whether or not you get to the parks early enough. With traffic, you just have to take what's there - unless of course you change your route.
