For the life of me I cannot ever remember seeing Disney characters with the "To Honor America" float while watching the parade at Disneyland or DCA.

As far as I can remember it was always "babes".
Yeah, the MSEP in MK back in 2000 had characters. Well, not on it, but walking along side. (I have video. They were all the characters that didn't fit anywhere else in the parade. :) )

Haven't seen the current iteration yet...

Yup. Trust me on this one, I walked the length of Main Street coiling up ropes many a night. Watching Pluto goofing with the guests was one of the perqs.

DLR may be the original, but there are a few things WDW has done better.

Pity we seem to have lost the advantage on this point.

Presuming this a serious question (a risky business around here)....

Light Magic wasn't a parade. It was a portable stage show that got (deservedly) bad press from being debuted before it was show-ready, and because the guests expected and wanted a parade.

Once they got the bugs out, which only took a couple of weeks, this was a great show. But the SoCal guest is a fickle beast, and once the locals decided it sucked, there wasn't anything to be done to fix its reputation.

Lesson learned: if it's in the street, keep it moving. I cite HSM as supporting evidence.

I LOVE Disneyland and I always will.

For the record, I don't really mind that MK is holding on to the parade. I personally was over it.

Its hard for me to imagine that DCA guests are missing it anyway, since the park now has World of Color.

I MISS Tapestry of Nations. I do. I always stay at the end of IllumiNations to hear the music till it's over... My daughter got pulled into that parade to dance once and we will never forget it. She was wearing Minnie Mouse deeliebobbers on her head *sniff* now she's almost fifteen *sob*

When I walked into MK a few weeks ago and heard the music for MSEP- I literally froze in my tracks. I saw the Pete's Dragon float (didn't watch the whole thing, I was with a friend and we were walking on to get out of the crowd) and I felt like I was six again. Like I should have been able to reach out to the right and left and take one of my grandparent's hands in each of mine. That is how strong a memory trigger it was for me.

I have not stopped thinking about it.

It's sad to know some of you west coast folks miss it :( but I am glad I got to remember some of those moments. I hope they give you something good instead...

Zazu, thankfully I didn't see the ending...the way you described it, it would've harshed my happy childhood memories!

Does the Blue Fairy still lead the parade?

"Excuse me, are those ducks real?"
"Yes, sir, but the water is fake."

No, a new float featuring Tinker Bell now starts the parade. As such, Tinker Bell is no longer flying around the mast of the Pirate Ship float.

Its really not that bad. Just some women dressed in very patriotic outfits. They also updated the firework effects on the float.

I, for one, am a MSEP fan. While I am not against change, I feel that removing this parade diminishes DL a bit. Of course, I'm not saying that without it, the whole place is shot to heck. I am not against some updating of the parade, but like with most things at the parks, I think it should be handled with a soft touch. I am a bit disheartened to hear that, apparently, that the soundtrack is not up to snuff. Big fan of the ol' Baroque Hoedown, myself.
