tried it once myself. the crime scene made me nauseous.

Not to mention that in the world of digital forensics, you had better not "enhance" anything, as it will give the defense an opening to have the evidence thrown out during discovery.Mayonnaise wrote:The Graphics person here would like to chime in, and admit that even tho I LOVE these procedurals, I still want to stab someone in the writing department in the eye every time they "enhance" digital imagery in ways that are completely effing impossible. Not that would take 6 weeks in reality... they are enhancing out information that simply does not exist.

No what I'm saying is, what they do with digital photos and camera footage, is not a matter of time scale dilation. It's an IMPOSSIBILITY. The information they claim to be able to get out of them does not exist.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:(and like you said, it could take weeks to do whatever it is they claim to be doing on the show)

well, to tell the truth, when it comes to digital files, there IS a lot that can be extracted from the files besides the picture, if you have the right software to accomplish that. you can also hide a lot of data within a digital picture, including another picture.Mayonnaise wrote:No what I'm saying is, what they do with digital photos and camera footage, is not a matter of time scale dilation. yes, I suppose that could be true, but don't forget about stego!kurtisnelson wrote:If the pixels aren't there... THE PIXELS AREN'T THERE!
I've heard at legal conferences that the procedural shows are having an impact on real-life criminal prosecutions, and not in a good way -- some juries are expecting a lot of high-tech, gee-whiz evidence analysis that clearly points at a person's guilt, just like on the shows. And in real life some of it is pure fiction, and the rest is pretty rare.Mayonnaise wrote:No what I'm saying is, what they do with digital photos and camera footage, is not a matter of time scale dilation.
