I had that question the other day and simply said "Pluto is a dog who acts like a dog, Goofy is a dog who acts like a man." That satisfied the guest. Next time, I'll use the schwartz and use the part dog-part man "he's his own best friend" line.

His name is Pip and I'm pretty sure he's a chipmunk.

Squirrels are rodents, as are chipmunks. Any mammal that gnaws, having chisel-like front teeth is classed as a rodent. So that includes rats, mice, gophers, beavers, and the largest rodent of all is the South American capybara.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if Goofy had kept a pet mouse? What a counter-point to Mickey and Pluto!
As to Disney squirrels, one's that I can remember that were more than background characters were the girl squirrel and the older lady squirrel in The Sword in the Stone, Tammy and her little sister Bink in the Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers episode, "Adventures in Squirrel-sitting.", and Bucky from The Emperor's New Groove.

I consider Canadian Geese flying rodents. I hate them. They make a mess, are loud, and can be just general pests.

When asked, Goofy will write "Man/Dog" in answer.
I think that's about as close as we're going to get. :goofy2:

I'm not sure I want to know what this means about Goofy's parents then...

Well, since we are discussing Goofy and all;
http://d23.disney.go.com/articles/04041 ... cript.html
"Mike: Is Goofy a dog or a person? Is he supposed to be a human-like dog or a dog-like human? And if Goofy's a dog, what is Pluto?
Bill Farmer: Mike, Goofy was originally named Dippy Dawg, but is more of a man-dog, maybe he should be called a MOG! Pluto was originally supposed to be a Bloodhound, so he definitely is a dog!"
"Dee: What's the story on Max's mom?
Bill Farmer: There is no official story on Max's mom. I like to think that she's shy... would you admit you're Goofy's wife???"
