Stupid Guest Tricks

Agreed. You know that during the recent monorail downtime guests were not worried about riding our monorails, they were just worried that they could not ride them!

That speaks volumes about how people feel about the monorails. I, thankfully, did not hear one SG talk about them or the cast being unsafe, etc. but rather how much they value riding our monorail system. Many even said it was not a Disney vacation without their monorail ride(s).

Hopefully, with a VP that comes from the maintenance side of the house, we will get more monorails on the beam to help the cast and trains themselves keep delivering our outstanding Guest experiences. With all the money being thrown about for plussing and way overdue PM right now, perhaps this will be the case soon.

BTW, I never realized how much I missed that sound of monorails overhead until yellow and coral were 'parked' at the Grand during our outage. What a welcome relief to hear them start moving again that night.

The first day back up and running from the incident, when every time I left a station it was with great sadness, the most healing thing was seeing small children that had no idea what had happened just 48 hours previous, who still ran and bounded aboard the Monorail. Oh my goodness. I had the same feeling on July 5th. I am convinced that somehow you can feel when the power is running through the beam, whether there is a Monorail sitting on the beam or not. That day, with no power to the beam was downright eerie. I don't know if I could have handled being there the day the beams were down all day for the electrical problem. When there is power running through the beam, you can feel it from a good distance. It isn't something you really notice until the power has not been there for a bit. Even after shutting down at night, walking under the beam at Pylon 153, I can feel the power is missing. I can't explain it.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this in case it might upset anyone so
I hope Zazu won't mind that I'm adding this here as it seemed to me to be the most appropriate place.

Three months ago today, the incident happened. A precious life was lost and countless others were forever changed.

I just want anyone who knew Austin to know, anyone in Monorail Operations who may be reading this to know, that not a day goes by that I don't still think of him and all of you.

Just last Thursday I was finally able to hand deliver the blanket I made in his honor to University of Michigan Mott Children's hospital. They were glad to receive it and by now it is my hope it is comforting a child.

I know I'm not alone in this when I say that we won't ever forget and still send our love and support to all those so closely effected by the loss of such an incredible young man.



His light still shines, so brightly, for all of us who were touched by it.

Absolutely agree with that one! We also are only guests. But, we will be down for the RADP meet in December. We only have 2 full days in the parks and two half day with travel in there. But, we WILL take time for a ride on the monorail! It is not a Disney trip without that!

I hid the news of the incident (and the images the news insisted on displaying every 4 minutes b/c it was Disney) from my kids. Any time we made a trip to Disney, we include a time where we can take a loop on the monorail--even if it is out of the way of what we are doing that day. This last trip to MK, my 7 year old wanted to run over to the CM and ask to sit in the front. I kept him with me, and just said they looked really busy today, we'll just sit in the cars with everybody else. He gave me this look like I had three heads.

This same little guy had the spiel memorized once. Two years ago, we bought our mini-van and it has power side doors. He insisted it was monorail silver, so I burned the recording of the monorail spiel to CD (including PSCOTD). We could stop it anywhere in the spiel, and he would pick up and finish the line.

The Monorails are definitely part of the Disney Magic.
