That is cool! :)
But what if you find out that you are descended from the Geico Cavemen?

I suspect they're not mutually exclusive.

That plus I had to do all the driving to cover 7700 miles in 19 days. Sadly, there were many interesting locations we just had to roll. Nothing personal, I assure you.
I know, Zazu. No problem. I've already forgiven you because I'm hoping we'll see you in November. :)

Although heraldry and knighthood do sound interesting.
Our family has a book written about its founding members and the history and genealogy runs all the way from before the Mayflower up through my grandfather, and includes a picture of our family crest (something with doves on it - evidently we were a peace-loving family).

I found an article on my ex-husband's mother's side of the family on the net that goes back to the 1600's and Germany, and on his father's side they hailed from the a region of England with the same name. Found a booklet on it when we searched through ex's belongings. On my mom's side, the Carpenters have a historic old house there in Grand Rapids MI.

On My Dad's side, not so sure. Probably bottle of Tequila on Family Crest! :p:

Enterprising at that time.
Sometimes the most creative types see less sense in following the rules!

One of the emblems on my mom's family's coat of arms is a gold crown; according to our family association, this means the original family occupation was that of goldsmiths. However, my mom's ancestors were farmers when they emigrated to America. Wonder what happened?

From what I've dug up on our German ancestor on my dad's side, he attended the University of Wittenburg, spoke six languages fluently, and obviously was wealthy, both in order to have that level of education for the time, as well as to come to America on a pleasure trip with a friend. He fell in love with America, and went home long enough to pack and say good-bye to his family, before moving permanently here. Hey, I wonder if their student records go all the way back to his era, the late 1700s-early1800s? That would be neat to see what classes he took, what major he had, and what his grades were like.
