The show must go on.

Years ago (in fact, lots of years ago), some friends in a band were opening for The Dave Clark Five. They took the stage, started to play, and discovered all the amps were dead. Except, that is, the keyboard player. Thinking fast and wanting to inject some humor into the situation, he played Baby Elephant Walk until the stage hands could get the rest of the power on.

He eventually went on to be the first keyboard player and vocalist in both Santana and Journey.

And this is a shot of the Dans... er, I mean, the Humdingers, performing, from the vantage point of the chorus. We sat on our risers behind a black scrim during their 30-minute set at the start of the second half of the shows:

Here's the line-up. This was a "Hit Parade" show, where attendees at our Spring shows and fans online voted for their favorites from our repertoire.

First Half
  • Harmony
  • Moments to Remember
  • A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square
  • Elijah Rock
  • How Deep Is the Ocean
  • They Call the Wind Maria (performed by soloist Jeff Oxley and a small subset of the chorus, the Phil-Harmonics)
  • One song from the Humdingers (a different one each show)
  • Can't Smile Without You
  • Jimmy Webb Medley: Didn't We Almost Make It This Time / Macarthur Park
  • Joshua Fit De Battle of Jericho
Second Half
  • The Humdingers, 30 minutes
  • Georgia On My Mind (from our Anaheim contest set)
  • Sweet Georgia Brown (from our Anaheim contest set)
  • Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
  • Stars and Stripes Forever
  • Pledge of Allegiance / God Bless the USA
  • Tribute to World Peace: Let There Be Peace On Earth / One Voice / One Song
  • Moments to Remember (reprise)
The shows were a great deal of fun for us, the Dans, and the audience. We had a bit of excitement at the matinee this afternoon when a lightning strike knocked out all the power in the building right in the middle of Nightingale! We finished the song, and hey, we mostly are an a cappella group, so we did the remainder of the first half with no sound system and emergency lighting only (leaving out only Can't Smile, which has a orchestra track). It was definitely a moment to remember! We had the power back by the second half and finished the rest without incident.

Great times! I wish I could fly you all in for a show someday. But since I can't, start saving your nickels -- tickets for the Christmas shows are on sale now!!! :D:

I can still hear you in my memory singing Georgia On My Mind and Sweet Georgia Brown! :D: And the pics are awesome

The colorful costumes of the Dans and the Dingers are so beautiful! Look at the expressions on their faces! These guys obviously love what they do! They just radiate joy! I tried posting earlier, but my computer got pokey--again. Yes, I've done a scan. And did maintenence recently. And God willing and the creek don't rise, a memory chip is on the shopping list for next shopping trip in two weeks.

Purple was taken in the group already. The fuschia tie and pocket square were enough for me.

BTW, someone mentioned earlier that Kevin Miles, the guy in blue in the picture, does recorded announcements for WDW. It was so cool to hear his voice live! He even did a demonstration during one of our shows:
"Ladies and gentlemen, for your own safety and the safety of others, please remain seated until the show comes to a complete stop. Thank you." :D:
Oh, and here's a pic of the finale:

This doesn't really fit in this thread, but it doesn't rate a new one... There's a new, very professional, video of the VM on YouTube if anyone is interested. It was actually taped last year, a new song written for us by the legendary Johnny Mann, called "One Nation Under God." At the time there was talk it might get aired on Regis Philbin's show, but that never developed. Sorry no choreography, but good for a patriotic fix if you need one.

(See if you can spot me -- I'm most easily seen in the third camera angle, when our director Jim Clancy is first seen face-on, on the top row just to his left.)
