Re: Hey, just a little update on the nontourist
Best wishes in your course of treatment, Notatourist. You're in my thoughts.
"Excuse me, are those ducks real?"
"Yes, sir, but the water is fake."

Oh, Nota!!!
It's bru i'm typing pretty much blind here because I wanted to come by and say hi to folks and now I find this. I'm so sorry to hear you have to cope with all of this.
I will be sending you all the positive thoughts and vibes I can (mr. Bru and Mini-Bru too!) and I know you're in FL and it's hot there now and I can't see at the moment anyway but if/when they get my vision corrected where I can crochet again I will make you hats when the weather turns cooler or to wear when you're in air conditioned places where it's cold. Though I'm hoping you won't need them- I know chemo types vary. If you do have to deal with that side effect I hope it won't be for long- I hope none of this will last for long.
If I was anywhere near normal at the moment (hush, no comments from the peanut gallery) I'd be working on a package for you already. :(
Please keep us posted and know that we're all sending you all our love and encouragement that we can from here. I hope this post makes sense I'm still pretty out of it but I had to post something.
love,
bru

Re: Hey, just a little update on the nontourist
bru,
thanks for the offer. The hair has started falling really bad this am, so you don't know how much that means right now-I'm crying as I write this. I know it's vain, that the hair will grow back, but it's my hair, dangit, i kind of like having it, you know. But you have to think life/hair and it all becomes a little clearer...
thank you again..

((((((Huge hugs)))))))
It's okay we can cry together, that seems to be all I've been doign with all the different stuff they've pumped into me in teh past few weeks.
I was crying after I read the first post in this thread- my husband came in the door early from a business trip and immediately asked me what was wrong and I told him your news and he said "Oh, no, she was one of the very first people to jump into your thread and cheer us on through all this." he also said he means to get his own username really soon because he wants to post his encouragement to you himself as well.
It's NOT vain to be sad about your hair falling out! Please be kind to yourself as these feelings emerge. With the crochet drives I've worked on in the past sadly this is a subject I've discussed with a lot of people enduring cancer (I hate the term' cancer patients' --it's like you become chattel- believe me I saw it with my dad even though he decided against the chemo)
We're here for you. I wanted to give you this link too- I've heard this site is great though I haven't visited it in years- I did some work with this charity years back for the Cleveland Clinic's peds oncology ward and I hope it'll help to see it because I know that no one can understand what youre going through but people who have walked the same road. we can sympathize and empathize but we just can't know.
You're in my thoughts.
Oh, and just in preparation...I shall need to know your favorite color. Even if the hats are too late later on I intend to make you something as soon as I can see enough to do it. It's good motivation for me to keep my own eyes looking forward (no pun intended) toward better days ahead for us all.
love,
bru

Notatourist, while you're pm-ing your address to Disneymom could you PM it to me as well? Please and thank you.
Seems the pixie dust is flying around here even with one eye patched and low vision in the other! I used to wonder (since I've been making hats for such a long time) if I could do it blindfolded- well today I basically found out the answer! I can!
Woot!
Green and blue yarn...check! :D

A sneak preview...
Just need to know where to send em. Mr. Bru is going to pop them into the wash soon and then I'll tuck them into ziploc bags and they'll be ready to send...(that's the way I always did it for all the hats i sent to hospitals)
I hope they'll fit! I made them on the big side on purpose (better loose than too small) you can always take ribbon and wind it in and out of one of hte rows to make a band to make them more snug.
Hope you're not feeling too badly tonight from side effects and all.
I can't believe that i can crochet on automatic pilot and with next to no useful sight. I mean, I've seen patterns in braille even, and I know of people who do it who are totally blind and always marveled at it- I never though I'd be able to do it.
I wish with all my heart you didn't have a use for these Notatourist... but since you do, I thank you for giving me motivation and a reason to pick up my crochet hook for the first time in months and try.
now off to bed with me
big hugs

Re: Hey, just a little update on the nontourist
My older sister lives in Poway, CA. She grows her hair out long and donates the hair to a company who makes wigs for those who loose their hair from chemo.
This year and the years to come, I plan to do that and donate my hair for those who are in need.
I plan to do several walks and raise money for a cause. Let me know if you need anything.

Nota, you were one of the first one's waving a flag for Bru, so now I'm waving one back for you. Hoping you get well as soon as possible. You have all of our well wishes!Notatourist wrote:okay...I'm kind of dumping here, but, my request is simple.
Kids, I got cancer. It's one of the female kinds, I had surgery but Monday...I start chemo.
Positive thoughts appreciated.
