It's where the server checks what page the images are being requested to load from and if its not sgt.com we show...something... else.

One of the games I play on once had naked images on it. Someone hotlinked to the image and saw nice pretty pictures but later the site somehow changed all the hotlinked pictures to nude pictures. Someone set up her layout on a site so that anyone stealing it would get nothing but a big warning sign STOLEN LAYOUT MADE BY XXX. That bandwidth theft really adds up. I have seen some kids putting up images that are popular then boom the image is down because of bandwidth being exceeded.

I had problems with people linking to images on my servers, not a big deal since I have unlimited bandwidth. The previous server was on a 100M connection, the current setup is 20M, hoping to move to a GigEthernet connection in the future!. Anyway, it was just annoying, so I redirected them to a picture of a cat on a toilet. That back fired, I found people doing it for fun
