I guess I should explain this.....
I believe there were some ancient cultures where they would throw the Widow on the Funeral Pyre....
Anyone else ever hear of this?

Actually, it was generally assumed to be the wife's duty to throw herself on the Funeral Pyre. So it wasn't really her getting thrown on as getting peer pressured into jumping on.

Hubby and I work on a crew that does fireworks and when one member of our crew was killed in Afganistan, her husband had her ashes added to fireworks in two special memorial shows dedicated to her. So her ashes were spread over San Francisco bay and Corpus Christi bay.
We've decided that's what we plan to do too. (Go out with a bang!)
I was at the memorial for Hubby's grandmother a few years back and in talking with my niece and her mom (my brother in law's ex-wife), it was mentioned that Max had told his daughter that when he goes he wants to be cremated and mixed with the horse feed. Missy said she didn't think she could do it. But her mom got a big smile and said that she would and then she would go around to the other end and wait for him to come out.

They now can take a pet's or person's ashes and make gemstones out of them, and put them in jewelry. There's also this one artist who incorporates ashes into paintings. I think the former is nicer than the latter. Be weird trying to insure a necklace, etc. though--"Can you put a higher value on this? These gems are actually my grandparents here, mom and dad are here, and here's Fluffy, Rover and Tweety. So this has more than just sentimental value, at least the usual kind."
Or if you really want to make an impression on someone, when somebody asks you what kind of gems you're wearing, you point to each and say, "Well, right here is Grandpa Smith, here's Grandma Smith, those two here are Grandma and Grandpa Jones, these two are Mom and Dad, here's my kitty Fluffy, my dog Rover, and parakeet Tweety, and I'm saving this spot here for my husband, and this one for me, when it's my time. My kids will be inheriting their whole family!"

I recall seeing that. I think that it was common in India, and only for certain higher casts.

Any chance you're in (or headed to) Orlando for the APA Convention?

Wow, maybe I can arrange that for my ex-husband, and then he would finally have some sort of value.

Of course, as always, I would have to foot the bill to have it done....

All of these options are interesting, but for me personally they hold no appeal. As far as I'm concerned, when I go they can wheel me down to the alley and have me picked up by the trash truck (probably with the monthly bulk pickup :rolleyes :) . I won't be around to care. :D:

I wish!

But we passed up vacation this year to save up for a new kitchen. My oven is only 15 inches wide and I can't put a regular cookie sheet in there. I am sooo tired of working with an easy bake oven.
We will be in Orlando in March to visit WDW but the next bit of fireworks we will be doing will actually be for Fleet Week in the San Francisco bay on Oct. 10th.
