He has a very narrow view of the world and will not allow for people whose workweek is non-traditional (imagine that at a major tourist destination) or religions that don't observe Sunday as the Sabbath.

With the responses I've gotten here and some other info I've gathered about measurement of Sound Pressure Levels, I should be able to blunt his arguments.
You said he claims to be Christian? Hit him with the whole thing that in the New Testament, Paul writes that what is good for one might not be for another, and one should not push it on those around them. He needs to find a way to practice his religion that he's not imposing on you. I wonder what he would think of churches that use... music! As part of the church service they might do things that are... entertaining! Yes, those churches are out there. It is the twenty-first century, after all. But hit him with the Bible. Does someone know that exact reference? I am so bad at remembering where chapter and verse of the Bible is...

Oh, and about imagining that at a major tourist destination... Doesn't that include Lahaina?

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Okay, I like the different religions ideas, the sounding of the horn, the firing of the cannon outside of his bedroom window, but this, this...

It does. We're about five miles north and up the hill above the Kaanapali resort area.

Romans 14, the entire chapter. Paul was addressing a variety of issues, not just what consituted the "right" day of rest, but also whether the kosher laws were to be observed or not. There was a group of Jewish Christians known as the Judaizers who were very legalistic, saying the traditional Jewish Sabbath , as well as other Jewish laws and traditions, including the kosher food requirements, had to be kept by Gentile Christians. Paul spent most of his ministry debunking this assertion.

Too bad I don't have a copy of a sermon from the church I attend which discussed how Saturday is actually the designated day of rest from a Biblical standpoint. My religion honors Sunday as the day of rest but the pastor explained why it's Saturday for Jews and some other Christians and it actually made a lot of sense. Tell Mr. Nutjob to get educated and at least start demanding his "quiet day" on the correct day before God strikes him down for getting it wrong.
